Maggie Sottero for shorter, petite brides

I found I really like Maggie Sottero styles and I was having such a good time that when I went to try on dresses, I forgot to ask a question that is kind of important.  I am a size 2 and the dresses I tried on was a 10 or 12.  I liked the drop-waist look, like a fit-and-flare, but I didn't think to ask when I order it in a size 2, will the bodice be a bit shorter?  I am only 5'2" without shoes.I know you can or order the petite length but I think that will only shorten the skirt.  The bodice came up right under my arms and hid any potential clevage.  And if I scrunched it any lower, I think the dress might have transformed into a mermaid style!Shorter, petite brides, when you ordered a Maggie Sottero, was the bodice the right length?  Did ordering a "petite length" help?

Re: Maggie Sottero for shorter, petite brides

  • I didn't order a Maggie dress but I did try several of them on and was told that if you order the dress in petite, the only difference is that the length will be 3 inches shorter - the rest of the dress stays the same as what a regular dress of that size is.   That is the reason why I decided against the dropped waist look, as it'd make a shorter bride look even shorter - at least it did for me. I think you have to like how it looks on you when you tried on the sample, the bodice will not be shorter (from what the sales lady told me), or you can sometimes have waist raised by the seamstress, but that might get complicated.

  • I'm only 5'3'', and Maggies were the best fit for me.  Nothing seemed overwhelming about them.  Pic in Bio.
  • Yes, when you order a Petite size, the only difference is that the bottom is 3" shorter.I am 5'3", and I ordered my Maggie Sottero Coco in a Petite cut.  I also had 3.5" heels, and the seamstress STILL had to make my hemline 3/4" shorter.  Defeats the purpose of special ordering a Petite cut, but what can you do.

  • Yeah- about the BODICE (lol, I don't know if ppl actually READ your question!) the smaller the size, the tighter (AND shorter) the bodice- but not by tons. I'm sure if you go 4-6 sizes smaller it'll be much better, but if you have a very short torso you may want to talk to a seamstress about adjusting that? (I'm SURE it can be done)I had a similar issue trying on a mermaid gown- it was 6 sizes too big and the "fitted" bit was practically at my calves... ok I exaggerate, but it was low!

  • Haha, thanks everyone for trying to answer my question.  I was really hoping the dress makers understand that the torso of a 5'2" girl is definitely not the same length as a girl of 5'8".  She is obviously ordering the petite.
  • im getting to this late, but im pretty sure that the petite size affects the entire gown- like the repositioning of the bodice and hem length. i am VERY petite (only 5ft), but my boobs are on the larger size, so i found that regular sizes fit better in the bodice. you can always shorten the dress, but it's a pain to try and rework the bodice.
