Armpit Spillage

How do you prevent or remedy having those chunks of fat at your armpits?  I've tried on several dresses and though I can keep my chest reigned in, I keep spilling over at the armpits.  Maybe I just have a lot of armpit fat?  Any suggestions?

Re: Armpit Spillage

  • Get a dress with straps!  That's why I'm not really into strapless dresses.  Mine has a very sheer illusion V-neck over a strapless sweetheart top and it's the best of both worlds.

  • If the dress can't fit on your body without creating areas where there are problems, it's probably not a good dress for your body type. Try some different styles.
  • You should probably try on or order a size bigger and take the waist in when you do alterations.Push ups make the problem worse, not better. I had extra room in my bust area, and push ups gave me armpit spillage (even though they made my boobs the right size for the dress - if that makes sense). I sewed some padded cups into my dress instead and it looked way better.

  • Any suggestions?avoid strapless. ta da!
  • I wish it were as simple as getting a dress with straps, but it doesn't seem to matter what style the dress is.  I lost forty pounds but it seems like my chest is unaffected.  I really didn't want to have to go up a dress size, but that's probably what I'll have to do.

  • You don't have a lot of armpit fat!! It's actually breast tissue so the bigger your bust the more you'll have (but seriously, everyone gets it in a strapless dress). Ringpop is right, push-ups will make it worse so the breast tape is probably the way to go. If you really want that strapless, have some spaghetti straps sewn in. This will allow the gown to be a tad lower so it's not right in your pits. Plus, you won't feel the need to pull it up all night. This should help at least a little because when you pull it up it goes straight into your pits and creates more spillage. Also, it may be worth your while to try a halter style or something like that where you can allow your chest to be a little less reigned in, that way the tissue isn't pushed up and to the sides.
  • I have a large chest but my dress is one shouldered, with the strap coming across from my left boob over my right shoulder...yes it is odd (but cool) but it's an "almost-strapless" look that is unique and avoids armpit fat. I wish you luck...and either way, I commend you on what perhaps has been the best titled post I've ever seen on the knot.

  • Is physical activity so alien that we think bra before working out?!Well excuuuuuse me, Judgey McJudgerson. Try to be more specific next time. In fairness, indeed bras are a much more common topic on this board than exercise.

  • Thanks for all the input!  Going up a size doesn't bother me, it's paying for the alterations that makes me wince.  I'm waiting another month or two to try on dresses again.  Now that I'm down to losing the last ten or fifteen pounds maybe the boobs will get a little smaller (apparently they don't with the first forty-five, just my luck).  If not, then I'll resign to paying for alterations.
  • I wasn't trying on dresses but had armpit spillage over my bra before I lost weight about a year ago.  I got rid of mine by doing that exercise where you sit on the bench and pull down the bar to your shoulders, then allow the bar back up, repeat.  It will tone up your back nicely and slim your arms down also. If your arms are going to be out, it would probably be good to slim them down by doing this exercise (if your arms are bigger) so you get more of a svelte look.  If you add in cardio 4-5 days a week for 45 minutes at 3.0 mph or so, and eat 5 small meals a day, cut out any fried foods and mayonnaise, and other fats (go with more lean meats and vegetables), you will be much slimmer next month when you go back.  I lost 5 lbs my first week and 2-3 lbs each week thereafter.  That might be all yo need to get rid of the spillage.Good luck!
  • i have to agree with ring_pop. i read "push ups" and thought of a bra as well, and i run 3 miles a day, five days a week. even people who are "exercise oriented" will first think of a bra on a dress forum, especially when talking about armpit spillage (the best post title ever, BTW). :)
