When to start fittings?

My wedding is in January, and Im just wondering when I should start to schedule my fittings? Someone told me in October? Would this be correct? or too early.

Re: When to start fittings?

  • I think it all depends on how much you are doing with alterations.  I had my dressed hemmed, the sides taken out, cups sewn in & the bust area taken in, and a bustle.  I started my fittings in early July for my wedding at the end of September & had 4 fittings.  HTH.
no identifiable siggy pictures anymore, thanks a lot stupid nest!
  • It depends how much you need done. I would say anywhere between 1 to 2 months out. I would call your seamstress as see what timeline they work by, they all vary. I had my 1st fitting on July 27th for my Sept. 26th wedding. I have one more fitting to go to next week and I should be done. She actually said she started early with me though because she had a 2 week vacation in there.

  • Hello and Congratulations! I would start the fittings before much more time goes by as you may need time for alterations--especially with the wedding literally right after the holidays. Have you had a chance to look through the pics either on here or in magazines? Figure out what you do like and what is appropriate for your wedding/budget. One thing I did was I went to a bridal shop with some pictures of what I thought would look decent on me. The attendant really did listen to what I was after, kept the budget in mind, and stayed close to what I had brought in. So do take a serious look at the overall picture, go to a bridal shop DURING THE WEEK and ask to try on a few. Do keep in mind possible weight changes between now and then. Best of luck! Sarah PS--Now just help me find a Renaissance dress here in Charlotte, NC!!!! I'm thinking of doing a Renaissance theme!
  • Thanks girls! I just wasnt sure how long it typically takes, and I wanted to get opinions on past experiences before I contact my bridal shop.I actually got my dress last January, its been in since May so Im very excited about it, its very flattering =)
  • I got married in January and started my fittings in October.  Some seamstresses are busier/book up more quickly than others so you just have to call and ask them :).
