Re: Am I the only one????

  • l feel your pain!!! All I wanted was a dress with a substantial strap....not strapless, not halter, not spaghetti straps, but still elegant and modern.  I have a large chest and needed more support (I hate pulling up strapless dresses all night)!!I ended up with a strapless dress, but my bridal shoppe is order extra fabric and creating a strap on the dress.  First they will create it out of muslin to make sure the rouching is perfect and then they will create the straps out of the extra fabric.  I have total confidence in them.My suggestion is to use a bridal shoppe that you know has a great seamstress/dress maker and then find a dress there that you can change into the perfect one.  My dress is only perfect for me because we are adding the straps.  I don't think there is ALWAYS a perfect dress to fit everyone's requests/needs.  You might find one that's almost perfect and need to tweak it just a little bit.Good luck!
  • I would highly recommend tracking down that gown that you saw online in a store to try on.  I almost bought it online and didn't try it on, but I instead found a store that had a sample to try on and it was all wrong for me.  I then tried on 30 different dresses and the one I loved the best, I was only trying on for my sister saying, "Couldn't hurt to try it on."  Boy was I right!  It was strapless and it fit like a glove and made me less busty!  I wasn't going for a strapless at all!  I couldn't believe it nor could I believe how different every dress is on your body. Again, I highly recommend going physically to the stores to try stuff on.  The girls that work in these stores are also good at knowing flattering fits to your body and they may not have the exact dress you want to try on, they may have another one that's similar in shape!  Good luck!
  • try to find a salon that carries Casablanca. from what i've been told, they are VERY accomodating with design choices. the seamstress at the last place i went to told me that she can draw a picture of modifications to dresses and they'll do it right from the factory (if possible), which will be far less expensive than having your local salon make the changes. just a thought...
  • Revenwyn- I am not Mormon, so please dont think I am saying this to defend my own religion, but in what way was you bashing someone elses religion helpful to the op? I can not imagine saying anything like this about someones religion for no reason. I do not understand all religions, but I would never say I wouldnt buy a product just because of the religion of the owner. Why dont you learn a little compassion, or at least how to filter what you say.
  • I didn't want a strapless gown either, but tried some on anyway knowing we could add straps or a halter if I wanted. I really thought I wanted something with a deep V and wide strap, but after trying on dozens of dresses, the one I fell in love with ended up being strapless...and I actually liked it that way! Go figure! I suggest trying on dresses at actual stores before you make a final decision or order online. What you think you'll like or will look good may be vastly different from what ends up being "the one".
  • I know a lot of davids bridal's dresses can have straps added to them, some of them are really cute... look into that, this way you can personalize it even more to your liking.
  • I feel your pain.  I've given up and decided to buy a strapless gown and pay extra to have it made into a halter.  I swear 50% of the dresses out there ALL LOOK THE SAME.  Then the other half you have to sort through a mess of sequins, beadings, outrageous do-dads and of course... the strapless.  Good luck :/
