A dress and weight loss.

I have been in the process of losing weight and have been doing great. I'm getting married in Oct. 2010 and want to start looking for a dress what I'm worried about is finding a dress and then losing a bunch more weight. I know that you should at least have a dress picked by 9 months before your wedding but what happens if I lose 15 pounds between the original fitting and the wedding. Should I stop trying to lose weight once I have my fittings? I'm torn. Help!

Re: A dress and weight loss.

  • My MOH lost 35lbs between when she bought her wedding dress and when she had her fitting and they just altered her dress accordingly so I wouldn't worry about it. If the dress you want is a corset that can be more easily adjusted as well. I would check with the seamstress to make sure that the dress you are ordering will be able to be altered if you lost an additional 15lbs etc, but I don't think it would be a problem
  • if your dress comes with the option of a corset get that.  It can be pulled tighter if needed
  • My wedding is in Feb. 2010 and I'll be ordering my dress this week. Order time really depends on the kind of dress you're getting (couture or manufactured) ... I knew I'd likely be getting mine from David's so I didn't worry about it too much. But it's always easier to take in a dress than let it out, so you're much better off with a dress that's a little too big. Of course it depends on your alteration provider's schedule, but I'd try to do the fitting as close to the wedding as possible and still give you time to get it all done.
  • When you buy the dress inquire about what their alteration policy is. They will take your measurements at your first fitting so they can order you the correct size. If alterations need to be made when you try it on they will be able to do that. My boutique's policy is that if after the first alteration the bride loses weight and the dress does not fit, they charge you more for having to go back and fix it.
