Plus size bride

Hi everyone!! I'm having a really hard time finding a dress. I went dress shopping this past weekend and ended up in tears.  Not many of the samples could fit over my boobs...I'm CURSED with huge boobs, and I know that sounds strange, but it truly is a curse.  Do  any plus size brides out there have any pictures of yourself in the dress?  I really like this dres http://www.rayliadesigns.com/gallerydetails.asp?main_id=119&sname=&cname=BRIDAL&cat_id=29&subcat_id=0# but couldn't try it on and am really nervous about ordering a dress I haven't tried on.  Pictures PLEASE PLEASE!!!!

Re: Plus size bride

• Persinko16, I was there.  I'm not plus sized but nothing looked right on me.  The knotties were so supportive and guess what, the next time that I went out, I found my dress.  You will find your dress.  Don't be discouraged.  I don't know if it's really wise to order a dress that you haven't tried on (or at least something like it) b/c when I tried on the dresses that I loved (on the internet models), they looked a mess on me and I had to go back to the drawing board.  I would have been out of over a thousand dollars b/c once you order it, you can't send it back and get your money. Are there any bridal salons in your area that specialize in plus size brides or have a plus size selection of dresses?
• I was a size 14/16 when I got married (5 years ago) and I had the same problem. I had the best luck with larger samples at David's and that's wheere I ended up getting my dress from. They have some really pretty dresses right now, too. If you don't want to go the DB route...try calling salons in your area, that carry Raylia, and ask them what is the largest sample they have. If it's a 2..you know you can try that one, but if it's even a 12 or 14, you'll probably have luck with at least knowing what it will look like on you. Good luck!

• I am a plus size bride and I had to order my dress without trying dress on completely, so I totally understand your frustration. Keep on looking at dresses and I promise you, you will know your dream dress when you see it.
• Try not to get discouraged! You'll find one!! Try to go with a positive attitude! Try on dresses you never think you'll like, those a lot of the time are the ones that work out. Everyone says they look totally different on you than on the hanger!! Make sure you don't try dresses on around your period, it always seems to make things worse! You'll find one! Don't worry!!!
• I am a plus size bride also and will be trying gowns on at a Maggie trunk show today.  I am nervous they will only have small sizes. I hope they have a good selection of sizes 18-20 to try on. My boobs are big, but my hips are cursed!!!
• I too am a plus sized bride and have had the same problems. My boobs are cursed too lol.. I wore a really good minimizer bra and squeezed into a 10 that I "just knew" was the gown only to decide it was definitely NOT the one. when I say squeezed i mean it too it took both my BMs to help tug the thing back off lol. My advice would be to go to a Davids Bridal or a Michael Angelo flagship store they will have huge selections in larger sizes. You can probably try on a gown that is similar to the one you love so you have an idea of what it will look like. Also larger boutiques tend to have more sizes. I found 2 places in New Hampshire that had a pretty good selection of plus size gowns plus Davids Bridal. Keep smiling you will find it
• I understand right where you are at! I have the curse of the huge boobs too! I went a couple places the first time I tried on dresses and it wasn't good because they good fit just not fit in the boobs so I was disappointed because you can't really see what the dress looks like if it doesn't fit. After that a friend of mine said try david's bridal so I did and I thought that I found the dress but I think that is because that one actually fit me so i've been looking around at I have found a couple more! I'm in love with this forever yours dress. Their dresses run big because at davids bridal I was 18W and in the forever yours a 14 is so close to fitting and I tried on a mori lee and it was an 18 and it was way too small, but here are some pictures I have more if you want to see then just let me know and I can email them to you! I tried on like 5 at david's if you want to see! The first 2 pictures are the one that was at davids, the next one is the mori lee that I said was too small, the next one is the forever yours but this one was an 18 and it was huge, and the last couple pictures are of the dress that I love right now that is a forever yours and is a 14 Hope this helps!! • I am a plus size bride (size 14, and that's plus size??) and went dress shopping for the first time Labor Day weekend. I have the same issue about ordering a dress I could not try on. What helped me was trying on dresses that I may not have liked but had the same silhouette  just to get a picture of the shape on me. I found two really nice dresses immediately. Also, the consultant you have will make a huge difference, they should be able to help you at least envision yourself in the dress. You'll be fine, enjoy this time. It's great fun finding the perfect dress. BTW, the dress you want is very pretty.
• I'm a size 14 with huge boobs too. I hate them. I found strapless was not for me. My dress was similar to what you like. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s78/Graphices_maker/wedding/5523_317.jpg
• I'm so sorry that you had such a bad time shopping for a dress, it should be fun!  I remember being really nervous about dresses not fitting (I'm a size 14) but was surprised at how many I could at least get an idea from.  I'm also "cursed" with big boobs.I too went with a v-neck dress (this was a requirement for me).  For my boobs, I found that v-necks, sweatheart necks, and off the shoulder looks worked best.  I'd caution about buying it before trying on because some v-necks were just too low (which was a problem with ample boobage - it just looked scandalous).  I think the v-necks really need to be tried on.Call around to bridal stores in your area and see which ones have large selection of plus size dresses.  Some stores that you wouldn't think would have a good selection will!  I didn't try that dress on, but a Sottero and Midgley dress that was very similar.  I don't have access to the picture right now, but for me the dress was just not flattering anywhere else on my body.  It didn't have much support in it.  You may have an easier time finding this one (since many stores carry maggies and this brand) in a larger size to at lest try on to get an idea of it.http://www.sotteroandmidgley.com/dress.aspx?pageSize=96&page=0&style=ASM3156

• Thanks debraulik :)The dress is from Impression Bridal, and the shoes were some dyable shoe brand - maybe coloriffics or touch ups.  I couldn't find a purple shoes with the height and strap I wanted, so I went that route.
• Desertmomnm: Your links don't work. Do you have any other links, I really want to see your dress!!! Cruella....your pictures are great.
• Cruella- I am doing purple/dark lilac shoes and I want satin too. Any way you can tell me the style number of the dress? I just went through all 16 pages on the Impression site and I didn't see it. Thank you!And sorry for hijacking this post!!!

• Thanks persinko16!  They make me smile when I look at them :)Sorry about leaving the style number out, I should have included it.  Its 2910.  Here is the link to the page.  The model is doing something weird with her legs so it looks like a mermaid dress, but its not.  The dress is a taffeta, and the shoes were satin.  I looked at them, and they were Colorful Creations. • Cruella- Thank you. Funny, that's one of two dresses I looked at on the site. But didn't think it was the one because of the shape.

• Hop on your local board and ask for recommendations for local salons that carry plus sizes. I am a size 16 and got VERY discouraged on my first shopping trip because the salon I chose did not carry plus-sized samples. So I asked my local board for recommendations and got a bunch, and wound up buying my dress from one of them. (If you feel like venturing into New Jersey, let me know and I will tell you the names of a few places.)David's Bridal and Group USA also carry larger samples. If nothing else, at least try them on to get an idea of what features flatter your body the best. Strapless worked for me, but I know it doesn't work for all larger girls (whereas V-neck can work for some girls but made me personally look a lot bigger). I don't have very big boobs but my belly and waist were my big problem areas. I wound up with a Maggie Sottero dress, "Brittanya Lynette": http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/mbcdefg/Bio/dress.jpg - I found that the ribbon on the empire waist (much like the detail in the dress that LindsayLou shared) helped slim me down a bit. I found this out from trying on a DaVinci dress with that ribbon, but I didn't like the rest of the dress so I narrowed down my search a bit by looking for gowns with that ribbon on it.

• I don't have pics. of me in my dress but if you're interested in seeing styles on plus sized brides check out Alfred Angelo or even David's Bridal pics. I really like that dress but if you have a big chest I think it'll really gap in the front and it's cut really low in the back so I'm not sure how well that would work to support your chest or to keep you from hanging out too much on the sides. I'd strongly reccomend calling ahead to bridal stores before you go in to dress shop. they can pull dresses that will fit you and in some cases get some into the store if you have specific styles you like. It's alot more enjoyable when they're prepared with an assortment of pieces closer to your size. But, no matter what you will look beautiful on your wedding day.
• mbcdefg, where in Jersey???
• I bought my dress from Park Avenue Bridal in Verona (about 30 minutes outside of NYC). I also had a good experience at True Love Bridal in Matawan (Central Jersey/beginning of the Shore area), and a lot of girls on my local board have raved about Russell's in Linden (a couple miles south of Newark). We're on Board #90 if you want some more recommendations for North/Central Jersey. Good luck!

• the dress you like is quite fitted and lower cut, and it may not be the best choice. What looks great on a size 4 model might not be so great on someone else. You 100% need to go to a store and try on different silhouettes to see what works for you.

• I ended up ordering my dress without trying it on [from Bonny Unforgettable,] but I went to Davids and tried on lots of different styles to get a good idea how things looked and how different cuts fit. I never actually zipped anything up because while my waist fits into a 24, I need a 30 around my breasts [the saleslady had the most incredible expression on her face when I explained that I needed an J-cup bra...] While its frustrating to not get to try on the exact dress you want, none of my friends who aren't plus-sized got to either [they were swimming in the size 8 samples, since they wear a 4...] So its not just us! I recommend trying on lots of dresses similar in cut to what you like so you can see how the shape fits. I thought I would want a very flowy empire waist dress but it made my breasts sag and I appeared about 8 months pregnant... So I had to re-think all my dress plans!
• I am a plus size bride also, and I found several wonderful gowns at Alfred Angelo. I tried on a bunch at David's Bridal, but I didn't like a lot of things about them (pushy salesreps, called me several times to get me to go back to their store, plus I found their dresses to be either too gaudy or too plain). At Alfred Angelo I had my heart set on a particular dress there, and ended up getting a different one from there. Actually, if you go to their website there is a section for plus sizes and the models are plus sized too, so you get a more realistic view of the dress and fit. This is a pic of the dress I almost got: http://www.alfredangelo.com/Collections/ProductDisplay.aspx?productID=90cc2df9-22f2-4c3c-bff3-1789e3f9699a&categoryID=1af402e9-205f-4b7b-9d22-6fec77b3d187&pg=1what was nice about it was the dress gave me more of a figure; I don't have much hips or butt, just boobs & stomach. It also had detachable halter straps, which might be something to consider since you're more busty (that way your boobs will be more contained/suppported). Here is the dress I did buy:http://www.alfredangelo.com/Collections/ProductDisplay.aspx?productID=7ec2404b-b333-400a-bbaa-c8777335718e&categoryID=32e5a88c-cbf1-498f-afcf-dbfca138c5d3&pg=7If you're set on having a V-neck, then DEFINITELY try it on first!! It might end up showing too much cleavage (that happened to me). Most importantly, don't get too discouraged. There are so many beautiful gowns, and you will find yours eventually. Good Luck!!
