questions about when to order BM dresses

I am getting married Oct. of next year, and my BM had/are planning on ordering their dresses in April.  One of my BMs announced she is pregnant today (I am beyond thrilled for her!) and is due around the same time we were told they need to order the dress (April).  My question is.....how late can she order the dress?  We are getting them from Alfred Angelo.  We were talking and she does not want to be measured for the dress while 9 months pregnant, or right after giving birth.  She also is not too thrilled with the idea of giving them a size, since she is afraid that she will not lose enough to fit into it or will have to have the dress taken in a ton.  Sorry this is so long, and thanks for your help!

Re: questions about when to order BM dresses

  • You and I are in the same boat! One of my BMs, a future sister in law whom I love, is pregnant right now! Yay! Fortunately for us, her mom is also her certified midwife. Her mom suggested that since I'll need the dresses by the time she has the baby, that we go ahead and order a dress that is one or two sizes larger than she is right now. If you get the right style dress, and a fabulous seamstress, dresses can be taken in very easily. It's not quite as easy to let them out, but still possible. She may not be back to her ideal pre-preggers body by your wedding, just depending on genetics and lifestyle, but she'll definitely be smaller by then. And you can pick a simple, classic style that is generally flattering on every body type. Like A-line or empire waist. That's my advice. We're just ordering a dress one or two sizes larger for her, and will have it more tailored to her closer to the wedding date. Also, my sister, who is my MOH had triplets 7 months ago! Needless to say, she's on a long journey to getting back into shape. She's beautiful no matter her size, but we're going to order a dress her current size or one larger, and have it tailored for her, too. She's trying to lose weight, but of her own accord. I don't want her to feel pressure to change her body for me. Otherwise, just be sensitive to your BM's newfound body qualms and insecurities. Don't forget to remind her that she's beautiful no matter what. GOOD LUCK!
  • I'm thinking she might want to order a dress 1-2 sizes larger than she is now. Is this her first child? I know you don't want to order later than the rest of the bridesmaids so they dresses are done from the same dye lot and you want to avoid the rush ship fees - if she orders it a few sizes larger - she should be able to have it fitted once the baby is born and she has lost some of the weight.
  • Thanks girls!  I will let her know (she asked me last night).  The most important thing to me is that she is comfortable in the dress.  She will be beautiful no matter what.
