dress not what I ordered!

I ordered a wedding gown from GROUP USA in May and my dress just came in. The dress that came in was the correct style not the right color. I ordered the dress with an ivory lace and champagne satin underlay (so the lace would pop more). The dress came in with white satin and white underlay- taking away from the antique look I was hoping for. In my opinion it's a completely different dress in a different color. They are going to order another dress for me but it may be another 2 or 3 months before I get it! My wedding is in April so I have time- but this is so obnoxious! Would it be fair to ask for something from the shop in exchange for the trouble? Discount? free alterations? something?! I also want to ask because I dont think the shop has been particularly helpful or kind about the whole mix up. fyi- I still owe 50% on the dress.

  • IMO, it never hurts to ask.

  • I agree, the appeal of all the detail is if you can see it, and usually the color helps that a lot. Your dress sounds beautiful. Are there pictures available online to see it?
  • Definitely ask, especially if you have a receipt confirming that the color they ordered is incorrect. The worst they can do is say no. Maybe you can get a free veil or shoes out of it, or something.

  • I love it! It definitely never hurts to ask since they didn't give you what you wanted/ordered. Side note: This reminds me of mine, actually :). If you still aren't getting what you wanted, check out the David's Bridal dress linked below, style VW9768 if the link doesn't work. They had excellent customer service, IMO, and my dress came in exactly as I wanted it and in a very timely manner (weeks). I am absoluetly not trying to push you into something different- just another option :)http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&categoryId=-49995498&currentIdx=15&subCategory=-49999486%7c-49995498&catentryId=6110586&sort=
  • OMG - I love your dress!  I tried it on but it was huge-the only size they had was like 5 sizes too big so I wanted to try it on in a smaller size to get a better idea of how it would look on me.  I've called and checked back several times and they havent' received any more and wont order one unless I buy it first.  So...I haven't been able to try it. It's beautiful.  I would explain to them that u realize there is still time but that you ordered early so that you would have time to choose a veil and shoes  that matched as well as to coordinate it with the rest of your wedding.  Hopefully you can get a credit for something.  They have cute purses and accessories there too - ooooh or a rehearsal dinner dress. I'm sorry this happened to you though!
  • I spoke with the store and they are going to offer me a $100 credit towards my remaining deposit. The dress will be in at the end of November. This should leave plenty of time for alterations, etc. But yea, am going to have to wait to pick out my shoes and veil until then. I was really looking forward to that!!! :) Thanks everyone!
