? for Maggie Brides

I'm tring to figure out when to try on gowns for my 9/18/10 wedding. I know many people will tell me to talk to my bridal store, but I was just wondering how long they said it would take for your dress to come in and how long it actually took. I'm in the process of losing weight and I don't want to lose too much weight and then have to pay a ton on alterations because I ordered too early and obviously I don't want to wait too long. TIA!

Re: ? for Maggie Brides

  • I would definitely order it at least 6 months out. I lucked out and the warehouse in Idaho happened to have my size & color in stock. Keep track of your weight loss (and dress sizes) and if you think you will be loosing more, go a size or 2 down. Remember that dresses can be altered up to 2 sizes as well.
  • they told me it would take me 3 months at the earliest and 6 months the longest to get my "dream" dress. The shop I had went to was a local shop, they obviously didnt know what they were talking about. A month later I went to a shop 200 miles away and they got it for me no problem! If you are set on a Maggie dress like I was, find a shop that is reputable and has good ties with maggie they should get it within weeks like mine did!
  • *If your dress is in stock in Idaho it will only take a few weeks to arrive, otherwise it is 3-6 months to be brought from overseas.
  • My Maggie dress took 6 months to get to my bridal shop. They had warned me it might take a couple months longer than usual because I ordered at the end of August, so because of the holidays at the end of the year things would take longer. I ordered my dress August 30 and my dress came in February 7. I am getting married in 3 weeks. I also have lost over 10 lbs and my dress still fits just fine because of the corset back. So I wouldn't worry too much about the size, unless you're planning on losing multiple sizes. Or as pp said they can be altered smaller.
  • Give yourself at least 6 months.  When I ordered, the ladies at the shop told me it could be 3-6 months for the dress to come in.  As luck would have it, mine was in stock, and came in 3 weeks later.  Which meant the dress will have been sititng in my closet for 1.5 years by the time we get married, lol.  As for sizing, if you think you're going to still lose after ordering, get a dress with a corset back.  Most Maggies have them, although I saw a bunch of newer ones that didn't on the site last week.  Don't order smaller than you already are, since there is no guarantee you will lose enough to fit in it before the wedding.  You *don't* want that kind of stress right before your wedding.  GL!
  • I ordered mine a few weeks ago. I think they said it would take until Feb for a non-rush order. They had sold the sample so they upgraded me to rush for their mistake. The shop owner said she would start calling Maggie in Nov to ship it, but I would probably be receiving it in Dec.
  • I ordered my Maggie gown in May, and the shop told me it would take 6 months for the dress to come in.  My dress arrived two weeks ago, which is two months earlier than expected.  I'd say ordering 8 months out from the wedding is safe.  I doubt you'd spend a ton on alterations if you lose weight, since it's a really easy fix to take a dress in.

  • We are date twins!  I was told that I should order by December to avoid needing the rush charge or March with the rush charge.  If you get a corset back then it will be very forgiving.
  • Stace I see you are from state college, I live in Altoona. Not only are we date twins we are very close to each other...crazy!
  • I ordered in June and they said it should be in by the end of this year. I believe they said 6-8 months, but they also said that the purpously overshoot it ... the salon said that they quote you a longer tmieframe to be safe, but it almost always comes in shorter than that. My wedding is in April 2010.

  • I ordered mine I believe it was Feb and it came in the end of Aug....I was nervous because we ordered me a size smaller (only because I tried on a size 6 which I measured in a similar style of hers and my corset was tied sooooo tight you couldn't even tell it was a corset) I just tried on my dress in a 4 and the girl was like hmm we could of gotten you a size smaller huh and I informed her that the 4 was indeed smaller!!! The point to my novel is that the corset is amazing and is def good if you are trying to lose the weight and don't reach your goal.   HTP
