Reception dress

Hey ladies I'm so excited, I just purchased my wedding gown. A Reem Acra Magnolia gown. I've loved Reem Acra forever so I'm extremely ecstatic about wearing one of her gowns down the isle. Anyway the dress is a ball gown and pretty heavy so I was thinking of getting a dress for the reception. I'm pretty sure I'm going to wear the ceremony dress for our first dance then changing into a cute little tea length dress for the dancing and everything else. What do you guys think? Would it be practical? Or possibly a waste of money?

Re: Reception dress

  • Because your almost 3 years away from your wedding, I'd wait to make any of those decisions until you get closer... Unless your ticker is wrong
  • I don't get the point of buying a super-expensive Reem Acra gown and then taking it off. If you think the gown is too heavy then you shouldn't have bought it in the first place.

  • Yea, I agree with pp.. If I bought an expensive wedding dress that I love, I would want to wear it as long as possible during the wedding.   I don't think a 2nd dress is far from practical or good money invested; it would actually not be a priority, considering there is so many other details in the wedding that you need to deal with, BUT if you have the money to burn or have money left over from your budget for an extra dress, though, I guess it is your wedding and do what you want to do.  GL!

  • I don't think it would be a waste at all. I would get something you really can wear again though. I was thinking of changing, but my sister said, "you should stay in your dress and feel like a princess as long as you can." I am thinking of changing shoes, though, because dancing will be easier. My gown, however, is not heavy, so you might consider changing much more than I am.Good luck, and HAVE FUN!
  • I'm coming from an Asian culture where multiple dresses at the reception is the norm and to be expected.  I will have a procession dress, the traditional dress, and a dancing dress. My ceremony dress is going to be sorta expensive, like in the $500 range.  My other dresses, about $100, maybe less.  It'll be like I bought one dress for $800.  That's how I budgeted it.  I did this because it was important for me to follow my culture and I love the tradition of the bride wearing many dresses. My advice to you: Do what you want as long as you have a plan to handle the limiting factors of time and money.  If you have plenty of time but not enough money, then shop and shop for a cheap dress.  If you don't have a lot of time but plenty of money, well...get your dream dress!  If both are limiting factors, then I would forego the dancing dress.

  • I don't really have a problem with changing dresses so much as the ratio of price to length of time you'll be wearing the dress. It just seems odd to me that you would spend Reem Acra money, which from what i've seen is at least a couple of thousand dollars, for 30 - 60 minutes of one-time use. And, then spend (I assume) a significantly less amount of money for something you'll be wearing for 5+ hours and could potentially wear again depending on the dress. If it was me and I wanted to switch dresses for the reception, I would have skipped getting the Lazaro gown, and gone with a very nice ball gown from Davids Bridal or Group USA. Then I would have gotten a designer dress from Neiman Marcuss or some place like that for the reception. • i switched to dresses and changed into something i designed and had made for about $150- mainly b/c we had an elaborate upbeat 1st dance that was choreographed and i didn't want to get caught up in the long gown.while i was happy to have the freedom of movement as well as comfort, many guests complained to me that they wanted a better look at my gown before i changed.it's up to you though- do whatever you feel would be right for your wedding/reception!GL with your decision!
