Opinions Requested - What Material for my BMs' Dresses?

Ladies,My wedding dress is lace. I will get married in late June in the early evening. I am going for an elegant and somewhat classic look. What material do you think would be fitting for the BM dresses? Here's a link to my dress in case it helps.http://www.brides.com/fashion/dresses/gallery/wedding_dresses/vendor/designer/demetriosilissa/detail/118356?f=92%3a98&offset=6The theme of the wedding will be love and romance, in case that helps.

  • Pretty dress.  I love lace!  I think you have lots of options because you have some beading on the dress as well as lace.  I LOVE dupioni silk (or silk shantung) with anything but it is a bit on the pricey side for you BMs.  I would stay away from chiffon.  I think that Satin (thick not flowy) or Taffeta would definately work.  Oh, Jim Hjelm has a satin faced taffeta (or is it silk faced?) that is really pretty.  It has a sheen to it without being too much.  I think it also matters what color you're doing and the time of day.  For a summer daytime wedding I wouldn't do a long dress in a dark color.  But then again you're venue may make it all "go together" if it's very retro or classic 1920s.  I don't know what kind of feel you're wedding has.  Preppy? Colorful/Playful? Rustic? Glam? Traditional? I know this seems all over the place but I would take into consideration other things in addition to you're dress.
  • Thanks Ladies! Why would you stay away from chiffon?  One of the bridal consultants thought that this is what I should go with but I wasn't sure if it would look "wedding" enough or more like a summer gown.  Why did you say no to chiffon?  I'd be interested to know.  Jim Hjelm?  I had not looked at his BM dresses.  The BM dresses would be a soft pink.  The other wedding colors (beside soft pink) are brown and creme.  The wedding will be in June at an outdoor area on a golf course.  Reception indoor in the country club building.  The look that I'm trying to go for is more formal than informal and more elegant and glamorous than trendy.Let me know what you think!  Thank you!!!
  • Long dresses will create formality and will look good in your venue with the time of day since it will be a soft color.  As for chiffon, to me it seems more casual than your gown.  when I tink of chiffon dresses I think of a beach wedding/destination wedding.  That is not to say that there aren't some gorgeous long chiffon dresses.  That would be pretty in a blush pink I'm just not sure the flowyness matches your dress.  Maybe if it was a fitted one but I don't know that I've seen that in a BM gown. The thick satin is pretty bt I hink for the color your using I would have the ladies in short dresses so theat there isn't too much pink.  Silk shantung, dupioni and the jim hjelm fabric are my faves still in long or short.  Maybe talk to your girls - HTH!
  • I agree with Lindz.  My dress was almost identical (oleg cassini ct229), and my bridesmaids wore long black satin dresses with pink sashes.  You can see the pictures in my married bio.  I chose long gowns because we got married in the winter, and I also felt that they fit the formality of our wedding better.  If your wedding is in June though, I would seriously consider short dresses depending on how your girls feel about that.  If you chose a material like silk or satin, they would look just as formal and classic as long dresses.  I didn't even consider chiffon because, to me, that fabric was more appropriate for a daytime, casual, beachy type of wedding.  Obviously not everyone agrees so it's totally up to you.  I think chiffon would possibly be okay if you were choosing a darker color like brown or black but for pink, I'd choose dupioni or satin.
