Got my dress

But now I'm having dress envy as I flip through magazines and see different dresses on wedding websites.  I don't know what to do. I'm having major second thoughts. But I already put down the deposit. :( I got the dress at a trunk show so it was a now or never situation and I wish I had had more time to think things over and try more dresses. Anyone else go through something like this? I don't know what to do.

Re: Got my dress

  • I really freaked out right before my dress came in (looking at too many photos and magazines). My brother bought my dress for me and I actually called him crying asking if it was okay for me to look for other dresses. Then my dress came in and I absolutely loved it. I did not want to ever take it off. I think that the bride makes the dress and you can always alter it to match you or add in a special veil etc...If you try it on again and really dislike it then you can go shopping again if you have the cash to spare. Can you post pics of it here?
  • Stop looking at more dresses!!!  Go on with other parts of your wedding planning.    Remember why you picked the dress you did.

  • I don't have pics of me in it, but it is a new 2010 Anne Barge from her trunk show. I loved it but I keep worrying about what others may say. My mom's style is totally different from mine. I wanted something on the simple side, slim, no ball gown. But now i worry, did I go too simple?  http://theringbearer.ca/wedding_fashion.php?gender=women&item_id=3301
  • That dress is beautiful! And just imagine when you have a veil, jewelry, make-up and hair. You can always do a really dramatic cathedral veil and stand out jewelry, but I think it is beautiful by itself. It is very classic and like you said it fits your style, which is the most important thing.
  • Thank you, Austen! I am thinking cathedral veil with detailing in the lace is the way to go too! I tried one on when I tried the dress and I loved it. Of course, the veil cost almost half of the dress, but I'm still looking.Everyone has different taste but I really wish my mom was just as happy as I was when I tried it on. I think not getting that reaction set me off, and of course, it's very hard not to look at pictures in magazines and online of other dresses. Had a freakout moment this morning. What is your dress like? How nice that your brother bought it for you!
  • I freaked out so much before my dress came in! I just kept thinking that I would look terrible on my wedding day and probably really freaked out my FH with my crying. My dress is princessy with pickups and lace, and I am adding a light pink corset to the back. Some of my aunts are not too pleased with the look but I really love it now.I think that your mom may have reservations right now, but she will probably love it on you when the day comes. I love the description of your veil and it will just add more glamor to your dress. GL! and post pics once you start adding in the veil and get it altered. So exciting! :D
  • Stop looking at dresses!! And post a pic of your dress here. And we'll all tell you how perfect and amazing it is.

  • It's beautiful, I would stop looking at dresses and doubting your dress, you picked it for a reason, you'll look great, don't worry.
  • I LOVE your dress! I think it's stunning and not at all simple. I too had major dress doubts. My dress isn't in yet but I have just stopped looking, which helped. I had the whole tears and melt down moment, I think FI thought I was crazy, but concentrating on other things has made me feel so much better. Now I see the dress as just one part of the wedding, and I'm loving it again. I truly love your dress, and you will look beautiful in it!
  • It's very beautiful!  Good job on the trunk show, I'm sure you got it at a great deal.
  • What I like to remember is that even if I like a dress in a mag or online, it doesn't mean it will look like that on me! For example, when I went to try on dresses the first time, I brought it pics of ones I wanted to try, and hated them all!! Then, I tried on one that the consultant pulled (even though I hated it on the hanger), and it was the ONE! Like said above, you bought yours for a reason. It's beautiful! Stop looking! :)
  • LOVE IT!!! No more worries...the dress is perfect and timeless!!! :)
  • Wow!! Your dress is beautiful! :) Don't second guess it at all - it is timeless, beautiful choice! :)
  • Thank you all so much for the advice and the kind words :) I'm feeling much better! It's nice to know I'm not the only bride out there who was feeling this way too.  Thanks again, lovely ladies.
  • I would just try to avoid looking for other dresses because then you'll always wonder. I'm sure there are other wedding items that need attention so I vote for avoiding the temptations and sticking with the one you have. It's gotta be something special or you wouldn't have picked it so rest assured that you made the right choice in my opinion.
