Add Sash?

I'm looking for some advice on possibly adding a sash to my wedding gown. It's Oleg Cassini CV273 (link below). I really like the dress but feel like it's missing something and would love for it to cinch in a little more at the waist. I was thinking that adding a sash might be the solution. I was thinking something simple in satin, but tied with a bow (side or back) in either light champagne or very light antique pink. 1) Do you think it would look good? Or would it be overkill? I am also worried that it would look odd so high up (the dress isn't doesn't have an empire waist, but it's still pretty high).2) Can you suggest some places where I could get said sash (preferably for not a lot of money, since I'm not sure how it will look)? Here's a link to the dress:http://www.brides.com/fashion/dresses/gallery/wedding_dresses/vendor/designer/olegcassiniatdavidsbridal/detail/177303?offset=6

Re: Add Sash?

  • Honestly, I think adding a sash to this dress would look like you just added a sash, instead of looking like it belongs. The dress is beautiful and has to much detail for a sash. For me, when I think of dresses with sashes they are usually very simple. JMO
  • You're probably right. Sometimes I look at the dress and it looks really simple and other times I look at it and it seems like it has quite a bit going on! I guess I was thinking along the lines of similar A-line all lace gowns I've seen with a slightly more prominent sash that looked pretty -- but now that I think about it I don't think those dresses had beading on top -- just the lace. Thanks for your advice -- I've been looking at this dress so long I need some outside perspective!
  • I think that it would look okay. Have you tried it on with a sash? I think that since it already has a satin band, you could just replace that with a colored sash that tied in the back. I would suggest looking on etsy or going to a bridal store to see if they have sashes in the color/material that you like.
  • It looks like it already has a sash because of the band. If it's the "tie" or "bow" part of a sash you are looking for, then it might be okay to add if it is not too busy. The dress itself if very detailed with the lace as it is, though. Very pretty!

  • I think the only way to figure it out will be to try it -- I might try and see if they have some really simple ones at David's Bridal (where I got the dress) and see what their return policy is in case it doesn't look right. Thanks for all the responses! This is what happens when you have months and months to think about just ONE outfit -- I think I'm starting to overthink everything and confusing myself. Grrrrrr...
