Donate dress after wedding?

My wedding was a month ago and I'm having trouble deciding what to do with my dress. To me it seems silly to keep it. I would only get $175 if I consigned it and I spent $750. I've checked into the Hope Chest which is a consignment shop that gives its proceeds to women with Breast Cancer but they do not take wedding gowns. I'd love to give it to someone who couldn't afford a nice wedding dress but how do you find someone and trust that they are deserving of it? Any thoughts? What are other people planning to do with theirs after the big day? (Other than hang on to it)

I was thinking the same thing.... how do you donate to someone in need.My thought was to put it in church bulletins. If a girl see's it in there, for someone that can't afford a wedding dress, I'd hope they would be honest about needing it.

Check out http://bridesagainstbreastcancer.org/. They take all kinds of wedding attire and/or jewelry, fix it up, then resell it at their events. The proceeds from the events then go to fund breast cancer research and to grant wishes to women and men with breast cancer. I donated my prom dresses to them, and will be donating my wedding dress after the wedding as well. HTH!

I was actually going to keep mine till we have kids.  Which will be right away.  Then take it to a dressmaker and have her make christning outfits out of it.

You could donate it, OR...sell it on preownedweddingdresses.comThen donate the proceeds to someone in need.OR donate it to brides against breast cancer!

Ditto Brides Against Breast cancer.  It's a great organization, and you'll get a nice tax write-off as well.

I think that donating it is wonderful.  If I decide not to cut it short and dye it, I'll probably donate mine.

You could always donate it to a thrift shop. I have seen some in the windows of thrift shops in my city and you get a tax break for doing that. Or sale it on ebay or craigs list.
