bridesmaids shoes

Hey ladies, wondering what to do about the bridesmaids shoes. I know that if I want them all to get new shoes that match, I need to purchase them myself. I'm trying not to do that so I want to know what you think about what color shoes would look nice with light blue dresses for the BM's (4) and darker blue dresses for the MOH's (2). Preferably something that they will already have.

3 of the girls have asked me what color shoes I wanted and I said that I wanted it to be something they already owned and they said that they were planning on buying new shoes for the wedding anyway. I in no way said that I wanted them to buy new shoes. So what color do you think would look nice? what should I do?

Re: bridesmaids shoes

  • Either silver or nude would go well with both the light and dark BM dresses.

Just pick a color and tell them that they can wear whatever shoe they want as long as it is X color.

  • yeah thats what I was thinking. I just didn't know if silver shoes are too specific. Do most people have silver shoes?

    Thanks!

Silver is fine. I didn't have any until my aunt requested them for her wedding, but they can be found in many styles and prices, so it's not too specific. I asked my bridesmaids to wear black shoes. Some picked flats, some picked sandals, etc. I think most of them wore something they already owned.

ETA: And I have worn my silver shoes many times since her wedding.

Probably not, but it is a widely available color in many different price ranges and styles from flats to 5" heels! They can definitely be worn again if the bridesmaids are allowed to pick a style that works in their favor.

If you say "BMs, you must wear this exact silver Ralph Lauren strappy sandal from Macys" then you should pay.

Your plan sounds just fine :-)

I think as long as you stick with a neutral color palette you should be fine. That includes metallics, nudes, and blacks (I actually own a pair of shoes in pretty much all of those colors). Anything else, like a hot pink, would be a bit too specific.

But not everyone has a pair of silver shoes, but if they need to buy a pair it is probably almost something that they would wear again, unlike lime green or purple.

  • Ok good. That's what I was worried about. I'm really trying to go with the flow and be as non bridzilla as I can. And as a self proclaimed control freak, that is easier said then done. However with the whole wedding planning ive been doing really really well. My mom is more of a bridezilla then I am.

  • Can you poll your BMs to see what they all own already? I would think nude would look beautiful and it's a popular shoe color right now so it may be something they don't necessarially mind buying.

I own silver, brown, nude, black. I don't know that I'd do black with a darker blue dress and brown would not really match. See what your girls have and go from there. DSW often has cheap shoes too ($29) that wouldn't break the bank and I'm sure they could wear them again this summer!

If you feel bad, arrange a girls night out after the wedding to rewear the shoes...make it a fun event so they feel like they're getting use out of them and bonding too :)
  • I vote silver, you can find silver shoes at Target or payless for $20 or less or they can go spend hundreds on designer ones if you like. Even if they aren't the same shade of silver it will look fine. To me just giving them a color is a way to let them show their personality off some & be sure to be comfortable in whatever they wear. Not every women is going to have silver shoes in their closet, but it's a color that will look great & is more likely to be worn again for like a night out or a holiday function..
  • I don't own silver shoes either, but if I were asked to buy any pair of silver shoes I liked for a wedding, I'd be find with it. The idea of asking what they already have is a good one too.
