Is it too soon to buy the dress?

I'm not getting married until April 2011 but I ended up finding a dress that I love. I'm scared that I'm going to buy it and find something I like better and I'm scared that I'm not going to get it and it's not going to be made anymore. The woman at David's bridal said they already made a newer version of the dress which I tried on and didn't like as much as the older version. She said that they don't know when those dresses aren't available anymore until they go to order them and they can't get them. I don't know what to doo... any advice?

Re: Is it too soon to buy the dress?

  • if you really love it then go for it!
  • If you are really in love with it, then I don't think it is too soon. I've already committed to what I'm wearing for my summer 2011 wedding (I've known for awhile what my dress would be).

But if you buy it, you have to stop looking at other dresses. That's the kicker, if you pick a dress, no more trying other ones on.
  • I don't think it's too soon either. I am getting married October 2010, but I bought my dress in June 2009 - 16 months in advance. When you find the one, you just know!

  • I'd wait and keep looking.  Unless the dress is extremely unusual, you'll be able to find a similar one later if necessary.  And you'll probably find one you like better after further searching.  I believe that most "two dresses brides" ended up in that situation because they bought too soon.

I also wouldn't believe anything the sales reps at DB tell you about discontinuing dresses.  They're there to make a quick sell ;)
  • DB says that about every dress they have, they tried that with me on numerous dresses.  They just want you to buy it now.  Chances are it will still be availalbe in 6 months!
  • If you love it go for it! Pics?

I am a July 2011 Bride &  I personally am trying to wait just in case. I have been out twice dress shopping & think I have found "the one" but I would like to wait until the year mark before ordering anything!

  • I just ordered my dress and I'm getting married in May 2011. If you're really worried about not liking it if you buy it now, then don't do it but if you don't think you'll find another one better, then get it.
  • I ordered my dress in September '08, and we're getting married in June '10.  Now, we originally thought we were going to have a much earlier date (by at least 3 or 4 months) but I don't regret my decision.  Still, on the other hand, it really stinks that I see pics of newer Maggie dresses that I wish I could try on!

If you really love it, go ahead and buy it.  Chances are, it will probably still be around if you wait a bit and try on more dresses.  I've heard DB make that same pitch on wedding and BM dresses, and they were still there over a year later.
  • I got engaged in December '07 and my wedding is not until 2010. I ended up falling in love with a dress right away and ordered it March of '08. I think that if you are in love with it and you know that it is "the dress" go for it! Just make sure you have tried on lots of other dresses before you order that one...that way you know for sure!
  • I have to agree with most here: My wedding is 4.30.11 - and I ordered mine 12.1.09. I couldn't stop thinking about it...was trying to convince myself it was too soon...then I thought about not being able to wear it and was reallyyyy disappointed: that was my test! I say go for it if you hate the thought of losing it. :D
