Corset back or zip...

I purchased my dream gown and it fits me perfectly. My wedding is 3 months away and my first fitting is end of February. Right now the gown fits like a glove and it is a zip-up. I have been working out religiously and am wondering if I should have the back altered to a corset design in place of the zip-up..... thoughts?

Re: Corset back or zip...

  • Since your dress currently fits awesome (and I assume you like how you look!)...take your current measurements, document them, and work to maintain those now.

    Measure twice a week:
    1. Chest where the top of the dress will fall
    2. Fullest part of bust
    3. Natural waist
    4. Fullest part of hips

You can still continue to do arm/shoulder toning exercises, yoga, walking, etc, but steer away from any heavy aerobic exercise that you know causes you to drop inches.
  • I could stand to lose a few inches in the waist which has been my ultimate goal. I don't necessarily want to put my goal on hold to ensure the dress still fits. Well I'll put it this way...the dress "just fits" wearing a full bodice bra/undergarment. If I wear nothing underneath it's a little snug but am able to move around and breathe in it.

  • IMHO, I still think you should just maintain to the best of your ability.

By maintain, that doesn't mean you have to be a couch potato. Certainly continue to tone and continue moderate cardio. Watch your calories and make sure you get enough. Three months will fly by, and you don't want your dress to look saggy & baggy.

A corset back isn't necessarily an easy/cheap alteration and it isn't foolproof, either.
  • I am having my zipper back changed to corset for the same reason. My seamstress is only charging $70-$100.

  • I had my zipper changed to corset ($150.00) and I'm glad I did it. The last month before the wedding my weight kept changing but within a 5 pound range. Knowing I had the corset I didn't freak out because I knew that we could adjust the corset to go with how my shape was on the day of my wedding. I had no desire to wear spanx. It worked out great, I think my MOH tightened up once but that was after dancing for a while. It also added a nice detail to the back of my dress,
