Gown that converts to reception dress?

I was recently at a bridal expo and saw a wedding gown that had a removale bottom -- so that you have a formal gown for the ceremony and a fabulous short cocktail style dress for the reception.

Does anyone know where I can find a good selection of this kind of dress online? (To begin with, I don't even know what you call these dresses!)

Thanks!
K

  • I don't know what they're called but I know what you're talking about. David Tuttera's collection has one, saw it on and episode of My Fair Wedding. And the Romona Keveza Legends collection has one. Don't know if there's a specific designer that does a lot of these types of dresses though.

The second & the last row here show what the Romona dress looks like long & short.
  • I wrote you on the Sept. Board, but for anyone else intrested...

"DatsyuksMommy" said they're called convertible dresses and I have also heard them referred to as 2-in-1 dresses.

The Knot LIVE had an episode (episode 13) a while ago with some of these dresses featured. You may want to check it out in the video section.

This martina liana (style 260) is one of the favs that I have seen:

  • I fell in love with this dress, so much that I drove 2 hours to another state to try it on. I have to say I was totally disappointed when I tried it on, the material it was in was awful and just too many pieces to deal with. The idea of 2 dresses in one is great, but the dress is actually in 4 pieces. The short dress, the skirt, the sash/belt and the optional bolero. Even though I feel in love with this dress, it's not what I ended up with. I also felt like the cocktail dress isn't a bridal gown and I didn't want to lose that feel.
  • Thanks so much!  I'm glad to hear from some other Brides!  I don't have a lot of time to spend in a boutique, so it's good to hear the pros and cons for this style dress.

(Aha!  The Allure dress is the one I saw at the bridal expo, but I didn't particularly like that dress.)

snoangel179:  Good to know!  I'm probably close to your build.

    BIG THANKS!!
Now if only I could have one of you guys do the rest of the work for me!
