How did you find your seamstress?

I have NO idea where to go to get my dress altered. I bought my dress at DB, but I'm scared to go there because of all the bad reviews on here. I don't know of anyone in the area... I never get alterations. And my family/friends don't know anyone. I've tried my local board, but it's so dead that threads from a month ago are still around the top. =/

How did you find your place for alterations? Any advice/tips for me?

I purchased my gown at an independent bridal shop and worked with the seamstress there. If you need a recommendation I'd ask your co-workers or local friends, or look for recommendations on your local message board.

I can't speak for the quality of their work, but I did have the experience that David's Bridal quoted one of my attendants $20 to take up the spaghetti straps on her dress. A seamstress recommended by another friend of hers said it would only be about $5.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.

  • We actually found her after going to an appointment at Pronovias and needing to ask someone about alterations. The woman from the alterations department said she worked from home as well and happenned to live near my home.

  • Also got recs from my local board! And I am so glad I found her through my local board becuase no one else I have talked to knows who she is. And she has been wonderful to work with!
  • Do you have any other bridal stores around you besides the chain stores? They may be able to do it in house or know someone they can recommend.

Side note - We have the same name :) I just joined pintrest so I clicked on your link and saw that yours is spelled with an "e" at the end. Everyone always wants to add an "e" to my name! lol Sorry, I hardly ever see anyone with my name, so it's kind of cool to me :)

Oh that's so cool! Everyone always wants to not put an "e" at the end of mine. =P Do you like your name? I hated it when I was a kid, but I love it now because it's different. =)

Yeah, I was the same way about it when I was younger. I wanted to change it so bad and on top of that, I don't have a middle name, so I didn't have the option to go by that. But, yes, now I love it. Well except for when people don't understand what my name is. That gets a little annoying, having to repeat my name over and over.
