Mismatched Bridesmaid's Dresses

What is the secret for successfully mismatching bridesmaid's dresses?

Re: Mismatched Bridesmaid's Dresses

  • Either try and have them all the exact same color or all the same material.
  • keep in the same tones, i find, or colors that compliment eachother, keep in the same length aswell
  • I did same color, fabric, & length (they got them all from the same designer).  Otherwise, I'd go with black - not many different shades of that one.

I picked the color, and my bridesmaids decided on the length/style.  Of course, I only had two people, so they tried dresses on together when we went shopping one day, and they both found long dresses that they liked.  I didn't one one in long and one in short, but didn't care if they were both short or both long.

They picked out the dress that best suited their body and they were the most comfortable in, and that's what we went with.

  • My three bridesmaids are each wearing the same dress (a full lengh Dessy design in duchess satin with an off-the-shoulder collar that folds over).  One is going to wear navy/midnight blue, one pewter/deep silver, and the third venetian gold.  My wedding colors are shades of blue, gold, and silver. I determined which color fabric for each woman based on her skin tone. I have a dark skinned maid wearing the rich gold tone, an olive skinned maid wearing the pewter, and a very fair skinned maid wearing the dark blue.

I had all different dresses in two different shades, with six bridesmaids. All the same designer, all the same fabric and length.

  • I let all my BM pick whatever knee-length dress they wanted in a jewel-tone color. Turned out pretty well!

  • I told my girls the color I wanted, and the length.  They determined the rest!  Since they all have wildly different body types, I didn't even want to try to tell them what cut to wear.  And even with different fabrics, they coordinated really well!

  • We're doing really mismatched. I pretty much said anything in a neutral rose/nude tone and same level of fancy. So far it's worked out really well, and everyone has been able to find a dress they love in a price range that works for them. I'm a happy camper.
