Renting Wedding Dresses

I will be a bride next year (July 2011). I am just wondering if anyone had rented their wedding dress and if they didn't what did they do with their dress after the wedding day?

I am considering renting a wedding dress because I don't want to keep it in my closet for nothing, you only wear it once!!

Opinions and suggestions when renting a dress are greatly appreciated.

Re: Renting Wedding Dresses

  • I didn't rent, and don't know of any services that let you do this. But you might want to consider buying a dress and then donating or re-selling it after the wedding. I am currently working on selling mine. In this economy, everyone's looking for a deal, so you can feel good about helping another bride out with a discount, and also free up room in your closet and make some money.

Some places where you can resell gowns:
    bravobride.com
    preownedweddingdresses.com
    thegreenhangershop.com
    our own Knot Classifieds
    Weddingbee's classifieds
  • I wanted to rent mine too... but couldn't find any place in my area that did that. I plan to sell mine after the wedding.
  • I live in Canada!!!!

I found a store in Toronto that does rent wedding dresses, but that is the only location so far. If I don't find what I am looking for than I might buy a dress and sell it! The only thing I am concerned about is wether or not it will still be in style when I sell it.
  • I would look at buying a used gown. Like you said most people only wear the gown for few hours so many gowns still seem practically brand new. They have websites that sell these types of gowns. You could look at buying or donating your gown after your wedding with brides against breast cancer (http://bridesagainstbreastcancer.org/).

  • My sister did it in in Los angeles and ended up partying hard the night of her wedding and didnt need to worry about the dress! it actually ended costing much more than the sticker bc of all the alterations!
