David's Bridal - Terrible Customer Service FYI

I just wanted to let you know that I regret getting my dress at David's Bridal for the sheer inconvenience.  My mom lives in Ohio and I wanted to dress shop with her so I chose David's Bridal because they are nationwide.  Once I fell in love with my dress, I was appalled to hear that they wouldn't ship the dress to their own store in another location.  I did NOT want it shipped to my house and am now having to drive back to Ohio from Virginia to get my dress.

Additionally, the person who helped me find my dress was wonderful.  The man who checked me out once I selected my dress was the worst at customer service and I'm surprised I didn't just walk out.

I did put my purchase on the David's Bridal credit card and thought it would be easy to walk into the David's Bridal store here in Woodbridge, VA to make a payment and look at the veils.  The lady at the front told me I couldn't make a payment at the store.  She was rude and did not tell me what my options were.  Needless to say, I will not be buying my veil at David's Bridal and am wondering what kind of service I will get when I set an appointment for alterations or to get my dress steamed.  Way to take away the joy and fun of this experience!!  And yes, I have complained directly to David's Bridal.

  • I had a pretty bad experience there too. My appointment was doublebooked. They didn't bother taking my measurements. My bm's helped me change in and out of dresses. I ended up not buying my dress from there, but still got the BM's dresses. When I called to purchase one for my daughter the rep was rude and didn't even say goodbye when she hung up the phone. One of my bm's had already purchased her dress there or I would have gone somewhere else. Plus I really love the dresses.

That's a shame. I had a fantastic experience with David's Bridal except for the consultant pushing me to buy my bra there immediately.

I recommend not using them for alterations. That's where they make their money and are way overpriced for that!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

This is a common problem with Davids Bridal.

However, once you had picked your gown out, why didn't you just purchase it at the store in your own area?

  • Yeah, I had a fine time at David's Bridal (then again, I was fine with someone just pulling a few dresses and letting my mom and me go through them. Didn't especially want someone standing there with me.

I'm wondering if the "not sending it to another store" thing has to do with commission. They're all one chain, but I bet picking it up somewhere else would lose the store some profit/sales numbers/something so they aren't willing to share (what it sounds like at least to me). Why couldn't you just have them send it to your house? Or just write down the style number and go and get it ordered from your local David's Bridal? There had to be a lot of ways to save the headache.

  • I didn't have a positive experience at DB either. But, I know plenty of brides here do.   I would suggest doing your alterations elsewhere. They are notoriously expensive for alterations there and nickle and dime you to death.
  • My daughter and I went to the DB in Springfield, VA. We worked with a new employee named Carissa. She was great!!! When we went back for BM dresses, the consultant did not speak English. Fortunately Carissa recognized us and took over the appointment.

I'm glad you had a good time there, because that store was horrific when I went.  What a mess.  We were herded like cattle into a fitting room and the consultant bounced.  We finally just ended up leaving.

  • I had a fabulous experience two weeks ago at the store I went to in Ohio.  My consultant was amazing with me and I got a great deal on a dress. She didn't try to throw in all of these extra things I wasn't willing to buy (shoes, veil, etc.).  They said my dress would be in by 4/20/13 and it arrived six days later.  I'm getting my alterations done elsewhere but I have nothing but positive things to say about David's Bridal and my consultant.  I had also been there in August to shop with a friend and she also had a good experience.
  • Stage is totally right- I went to a DB back home in Massachusetts and not only was it totally empty but I got great customer service. I just happened to find my dress somewhere else.

  • I don't know why I didn't buy it here!  I think I had this fear that the price would change or the sky would fall :)

  • My consultant was fabulous too and didn't pressure me to buy anything that I wasn't ready for.  Everything that has happened since has been the frustrating part.

[QUOTE]David's Bridal is a franchise chain, so their customer service varies by location and also by when you go in and who is working (such as with va4ryan and buttons), just like any other franchise. I've used the one in my area for BM dresses many times and for my wedding dress, and never had an issue with them.  I do agree that their basic alterations are overpriced, but in my case, for my wedding dress, the bustle I wanted was going to be more expensive through any of the independent seamstresses.  I decided to go with DB since there was only about a $40 difference and that $40 was worth it to me to know they would order me a new dress at no charge if they screwed anything up too badly to fix. I am very sorry that so many have had bad DB experiences, but honestly, it really does vary from store to store so I wouldn't let that turn me off as a new bride.

<div>This was pretty much my experience, especially the part regarding alterations. My alterations came to $345 and that was actually cheaper than the highly recommended seasmtresses in my area. I loved my local DB, including the alterations dept. It really varies from location to location!</div>
