monogram necklace?

I wanna get a monogram necklace for my wedding day, like this one:

http://janebasch.com/productspage/layersofluxe/4s125monogrammultistrandnecklace/

Once married, I will change my name to "FirstName GivenMiddleName NewLastName."

But, for purposes of this necklace, I'd like to order it "FirstName MaidenName NewLastName." I wanna do it this way to honor my new AND my former last name.

Is this a good/cute idea? Or, since the necklace/initials wouldn't match my legal name, is that weird?

Thanks for your help, everyone!

Re: monogram necklace?

  • You shouldn't use your new last name until after the ceremony. So it's technically an etiquette faux pas.

Thanks, Hoboken! The first time I would wear the necklace would be to our wedding ceremony... Still a "no no" to use the new last name in the monogram?

Yes since you are not married until the ceremony is over. Same rule applies wedding stationary. Also keep in mind that your name doesn't magically change after the ceremony. It often takes weeks or even months to complete.

  • It's not ok to use the monogram until after the ceremony. I think it's a little weird to get one that's not going to have your given name. I feel like that's something cute for immediately after the wedding but won't seem so clever in a year. It's up to you if you think you'd keep wearing it. Also, just an FYI there's groupons and idodailydeals for these pretty frequently, I got mine from namejewelryspot for 50% off.

  • Yes, I am well aware that your name doesn't "magically" change after you get married. Since all of my friends and siblings have gone through this already, I want to work extra hard to make our special day unique/memorable for my FI and I. Thought this might be a cute idea.
  • I think it's a cute idea after the ceremony. You could always change it right after you sign yor marriage license. I L-O-V-E monogramms so I barely ever say no to them lol. Definitely look at groupon deals and on Etsy. I'm sure someone on  there has one that you like.
  • Personally, I don't think anyone would care if you wore it during the ceremony. It's not like anyone would faint due to the horror. Do what you want.
  • I'm not an expert by any means but I think the necklace would be cute with your first initial and your grooms first initial with new last name. I also don't find wearing it on your wedding say an issue. It's not like you are out flaunting it around before the wedding and since you can't magically make one appear between saying I Do and the reception, I think its ok. No one would probably even notice anyway. We have several things monogrammed and engraved with our new letters but just don't use them yet.
