ADVICE, PLEASE!!

My wedding is October 16, 2010- EXACTLY 5 months from today and I have yet to pick the bridesmaid dresses. It has been SO hard for me- I have a total of 8 girls
(including the jr. bridesmaid); 3 of the 8 are heavier set. My dream was to have an emerald green color bridesmaid dresses. I am now torn between TWO:
Bari Jay:style 644, royal
Dessy: style 2794, hunter

I love the Bari Jay for it's two shoulder sleeve thing but love the Dessy for the color. If I go with the Bari Jay I would then have to go for a royal blue( my theme is peacock) bc the "hunter" looks like a grassy color. I am also worried about the satin for the heavier set girls as I am afraid it will show the WRONG curves and ruin my picutres. I AM SO TORN!!! I must send out an e-mail to all  of the girls today to have them purchase their dress but have NO idea what dress to go with!
My wedding dress is taffetta would satin or chiffon go with it better? With the satin, since it has a slight shine will it take away from my dress?

PLEASE HELP.

Re: ADVICE, PLEASE!!

  • I like the Dessy one beter
  • Their curves will not ruin your pictures.  That is offensive.

  • Your pictures will be ruined by obviously uncomfortable bridesmaids in unflattering dresses.  If they're comfortable and happy in the dresses, your pictures will look beautiful.

Have your girls actually tried on these dresses?  I personally refuse to buy any clothing I haven't tried on first.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Agree with PP... uh, your girls have to WEAR these, why don't you let them try them on and pick them out?  I personally don't care for all the BM's wearing all the same style.  Plus, they get to be halfway comfortable and hopefully really like what they are in.

This may be your pretty pretty princess day but there are others involved, including other peoples' feelings as well.  Please take that into consideration.

Have them try on the dresses and then vote. Don't just pick out something on their behalf and tell them to wear it.

If you're so concerned with fat girls ruining your photos, then only have thin friends from now on.

  • I totally agree with PPs.  I have curves and know that not all dresses or materials look great on me, but if I was in a wedding where the bride said she thought my curves would ruin her pictures I would drop out of that wedding and that friendship.  Sorry if thats harsh but thats how your post came across.

Are you set on having all of your girls in the same exact dress?  With a bridal party in a range of sizes I think your best bet is to go somewhere like Davids Bridal and let them choose.  They have many dresses that come in the same exact colors so you can pick the color you want and let them choose the dress they want.  I personally care more about my BMs being happy and comfortable at the wedding then how my pictures will look.  Plus if you end up picking a dress that not everyone is comfortable in or looks great in, they will know they don't look right in it, and will probably look uncomfortable in the pictures.

  • I personally I am having the same troubles with the exact same dresses.....different colors though......I think I am going to go with the Bari Jay.....I believe they are cheaper and the material is more flattering for a wedding.
