Veils for petite brides?

The first time I tried on a wedding dress, the lady at the bridal shop put a gathered (read: "poufy") fingertip veil on my head and I felt like it was wearing ME, instead of the other way around. I'd like something more along the lines of a mantilla or drop veil, because I realy hate poufy veils. But, my real question is about length. I'm 5'3" and probably won't be wearing heels, so would a waltz length veil look weird? Is a longer veil (waltz or chapel length) going to make me look shorter?

Re: Veils for petite brides?

  • I'm 5'4" (although admittedly far from petite) and I'm wearing a waltz-length veil. I think it looks fine. PIB if you want to see it from the back.

  • I'm 5'2 and I'm totally over the whole veil thing.  I will probably go with either a fascinator or a crystal headband, which is definitely more me than a piece of tulle on my head.

  • I am 5'1 and all the veils I have tried on were fingertip or longer. I personally LOVE cathedral lengths! I did not think that it made me look any shorter.

  • im 5' and im wearing a chapel/cathedral length veil. there are veils that aren't as poofy (i.e. have a smaller width), which might help. try www.occanseydesigns.com for more info.

i'd also keep in mind the back of your dress- if you have a lot of beading or beautiful detailing, an elbow or fingertip length veil might visually cut into it.
