Beware - Alfred Angelo, Baton Rouge Seamstress!!

Let me start with, I do not normally complain. But I wanted to share my story of my experiences with the Alfred Angelo Signature store #54 in Baton Rouge, La. I don’t want another bride to be a week out from their wedding driving home in tears because their wedding dress is in shambles. I had many bad experiences (wrong back ordered, etc) with the store but I this is specifically about the seamstress. I live in Mobile, Alabama but I found the dress I wanted &I went to this store (3 hours away, 3 round trips!) b/c I wanted a corset back. The dress came in & we drove the 3 hours for me to get fitted. My seamstress was Alyse (spelling?) & she is the one who has ruined my wedding dress… as she was fitting me & determined that the dress would need to be taken in; I specifically told her that I did NOT want her to cut any material from my dress, that if she felt there was just way too much material to save she needed to call me to discuss so that we could determine how much to leave. I never received this call! When I went back for my final fitting, I made the mistake of going by myself. When I saw it on I should have spoken up then, now, even after loosing 60 pounds I still have a ways to go, so I have body issues. When the back was tied tight enough that the top wasn’t gaping open all of my back was pushed up over the top of the dress & I was given back crack! I will also mention that she did my bustle & I had to resew the bustle because the ribbons fell off. Two weeks before my wedding my bridesmaids were getting their final dress fittings so I asked the seamstress ( in Mobile) if she would also look at my dress. During my bridal portraits it kept falling down & I had to keep pulling on it. When she saw it on me she was like WHAT THE HELL? Who did this to your dress? She said that they took too much material from the back & not enough from the front. It wasn’t a big deal she would undo what they did & redo it for me..that is until she opened it up there in front of me! After I specifically told Alyse to not cut my dress, she not only cut it but left less than an inch on either side!! I immediately called the store manager Wanda, and explained the situation. She wanted to know how much time before the wedding & when I told her 2 weeks she gasped. She said that she would speak with Alyse & her DM on Tuesday & call me back (this was Saturday). On Tuesday I didn’t hear from her….finally on Thursday when I was on the way to get fitted in my now Frankenstein’d up dress I called her. She thought I was another bride because she said “Aren’t you coming in on Tuesday for us to “FIX” your dress?” I told her "no". This makes me think this woman has screwed up another dress. She finally told me that they wouldn’t do anything unless I brought them the dress and they saw it on me. I already had another seamstress working on fixing the dress, & that it would have been nice if she had called me back on Tuesday when she said she would. If she had called then that I might have been able to arrange to drive to Baton Rouge… but by Thursday my new seamstress had taken it apart & was trying to fix it. I told her that I thought this was unacceptable, that I would be calling corporate. She said that if that was what I felt I needed to do…I have tried calling corporate who directed me to the DM. I left VM for her and a month later I have yet to receive a call...so much for 24-48 hr.

Re: Beware - Alfred Angelo, Baton Rouge Seamstress!!

  • It sounds like you have a terrible seamstress--sorry! I'm a bride, but when I was a bridesmaid I had a terrible experience with an Alfred Angelo dress--the zipper was a piece of junk and broke almost instantly! This is a problem with their cheap zippers that others have experienced as well. Anyone who has a dress should replace their zippers immediately so they don't have an issue--the material and look of the dress was fine, just not the zipper. I refused to choose Alfred Angelo dresses for my bridal party--David's dresses are much better made, and fit all my girls from size 2-20.
  • I am in the mother of the bride and don't have my dress yet for my daughter's March 10 ceremony. Today is February 21.  I am freaking out.  My dress came in on January 26, but was the wrong skirt and wrong sized top.  They put a rush and said it would be in by Mardi Gras and that the seamstress would be able to get it done as soon as it came in.  It has not come in and I'm getting worried.  I'm afraid the top still won't fit. ( How do you know what looks good when the sample size is either an 8 or a 24?  I know I will need it hemmed.  How can they do all this in one week. I've looked for  a plan B and can't find anything I like. At 5'2, everything will need to be hemmed and sleeves will need to be shortened.  So angry!!!! I wish I would have known how awful shopping for a MOB dress could be.   I hope I don't have to wear jeans to my daughter's wedding.
  • iIt is now a week later and I still do not have my dress.  The wedding is in 12 days!  Finally talked to chad@alfredangelo.com and he said the top should be in March 2 ( 8 days before the wedding) and that they have no clue where the skirt is.  I had to resort to plan c and now am wearing a friend's dress since mine won't be in.  Very upset with this store and sorry I ever went there.
