RecycledBride.com reveiws?

My Fiance and I are getting married in March... and I do not have my dress yet.. AAHH!! Im strarting to freak out. Has anyone used recycledbride.com? I am SO nervous to order a dress online!! my grandmother can do the alterations if need be but what if the dress is too small? or what if the dress is in bad shape? I have no shame in wearing a "handme down" dress..... It just makes me nervous to buy online

  • You don't know what will look good on you until you actually put it on.   Perhaps go to some bridal shops to try gowns on, find out what works on you, and then order?  I know nothing about recycledbride.com, unfortunately.

  • Thank you, I have tried on a few... we were going to be married in May so I started looking... but we moved the wedding up so now I am time crunched. I know the style I am wanting, and I found a dress that I tried on in the store adn LOVED for 1/3 of the price. maybe I should go get measured. I'm  just worried because different designers size charts are different. And I dont want the dress to be trashed. I am worried that the website is not reputable
  • I looked at both RecycleBride and OnceWed for my dress. Ultimately, the dress I was looking for popped up on OnceWed first and I purchased it; both sites are similar and I know some sellers list on both. I had a great experience and my dress came quickly and as described.

That said, I had tried the dress on in a salon, in the size that fit perfectly, so I knew what I needed. Then, I ordered one size up from OnceWed just to be safe. I also compared my measurements to the sizing chart made specifically for Allure dresses.

Get measured, find the dress you want in person so you know what size chart to reference, and you should have no problem ordering a pre-owned dess.
  • thank you very much!
  • I sold a dress on recycledbride.com.   Here are my suggestions:

Have someone else take your measurements, so you know exactly what size you are in "wedding sizes".   (since you have tried on dresses before, you may already know this; but wedding sizes are often dramatically different than your regular street clothes size).

Compare your measurements against the designer size chart to see what size you should fit in.

Make sure that the dress you are considering hasn't been altered down a size.   For example, my wedding gown was a size 20.  I am normally a street size 16, but I needed it bigger to accoodate my bust.  But I had to dramatically take in the waist and hip area.  The bust of my dress is still a 18/20ish, but the waist and hips are probably are around a 16.  So, make sure you ask the seller specifically what alterations have been done.

Ask the seller to send you a current picture of the dress, in their possession with a sign or something in front of it.  Consider it like a ransom photo. You want to make sure that the seller didn't just get a photo off the internet and is selling a dress that doesn't exist.  Have them make a sign that says "Photo for MrsAmr2013" and text or email it to you.

Get a phone number and street address for the seller. You want to make sure you have contact information other than an email address, in the event you don't get the package.

I know this sounds scary, but if you do things right, you can get a great dress at an awesome bargain.  I sold a brand new dress, never been altered or worn for $325.00.  So, the deals are out there !!

    Good luck!

PS.  the website is reputable, but just like ebay or buying something from someone on craiglist, people can be shady.  Most of the listings are from brides who had second thoughts and bought a second dress or someone who doesn't want their dress hanging in their closet for 20 years, or often, salons sell their samples on there.  As long as you do your homework and you are careful about the contact, you should be fine.

Also, try preownedweddingdresses.com   That's another used dress site.
  • Thank you for all the info!!!! I am going to be measured tonight! I appreciate the help!!!
  • Okay, you have been warned....  Buying a used or 2nd hand dress is risky.  This is your wedding day, why wouldn't you want the best dress and experience?   You are worth it!!

I have heard so many horror stories (and some good ones too) about buying a dress online without trying it on; some seamstresses can do amazing repair work at a price, but do you really want the hassle?  Ask yourself this question.  Take a chance if you want, but this is your wedding day after all.

this is ridiculous advice.  It's not about someone being "worth it" or not.  Many brides are on a budget.  I wouldn't recommend buying a dress fron a knockoff website, but buying a dress second hand or used is not the same thing.

Of course, with anyone online purchase, you have to take precautions, but trying to imply that buying a used dress is someonw diminishing OP's worth is very arrogant and privileged.

It's not about "being worth it" OP can buy a beautiful designer gown at a fraction of the price. I wish i would've known of recycledbride, oncewed, preownedweddingdresses.com before buying my dress, i would've definitely purchased through one of these sites.

I actually sold some BM dresses on Recyledbride. Oh and i bought a Mantilla veil too. retailed on DB for 200+ and bought it for $40. Some stuff will be new with tags.

Good Luck. If you're going the preowned route, 3 months is enough time to purchase a dress. I would also recommend sample sales at your local boutiques.
  • You should check out PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com.  They have over 10,000 gowns and are a very ligit site.  I bought my dress from there (and sold one I bought but didn't wear there).  Had a great experience with both.

    Good luck.
  • Thank you all!!! I ordered from Oncewed.com and patiently waiting for my dress to get here:) I dont think that buying a "second hand" dress makes me feel "not worth it". This is my second wedding.. I understand what is important and frankly spending 2000 on a designer dress is what is not worth it to me. the dress I found is THE DRESS that I had picked out.... my grandmother was going to make it (which would have meant more to me then buying off the rack) but since we moved our wedding up.... I found it with tags still on... and for less then half  of what I would have bought it for from the designer. It is the most beautiful dress i have ever seen!!! and I am SUPER excited that I found it for cheap!!!! now I can splurge on a really nice weekend with my new hubby:) Thank you everyone for all the advice!!! I CANT WAIT for my dress to get here!!!!!
