Just had to share this story....

So I went dress shopping for the first and only time this week with my mom. I told her on the way that there were three specific things I didn't want to wear on my wedding day...

1. Strapless (I was convinced I need some kind of strap/sleeve)
2. A train (I thought they were huge and would annoy me all day)
3. A Blusher or long veil (I was convinced I wanted a birdcage veil)

.... So guess what three things I ended up with? If you went with all three you are the big winner!  Even though this dress was everything I thought I didnt want, when I put it on it was so amazing and dramatic I knew it was the one. So you can look at pictures online/in magazines all day but wow what a difference actually putting it on makes.

By the way for anyone curious this is dress I ended up with except mine is a blush/almost pink color. For any pale girls out there, this was a million times more flattering than a stark white dress.

Moral of the story: Keep on open mind! I'm glad I did!

Re: Just had to share this story....

  • So glad you didn't rule it out. It's STUNNING!
  • Glad you were open minded. I had my first dress shopping experience last weekend and I went in with an open mind and found a dress I loved.

Your dress is amazing and I am sure it will look great. Do you have a picture with you in the dress and the veil?

    Thanks for sharing your story!

I've heard of others who also go in to try on their dream dress and hate it, and end up loving something that wasn't at all what they expected they wanted.

I've made a list of things I really really don't want (FI contributed to this list, too), like tulle, couture gowns, and things that are fussy and heavily beaded or embroidered. [He's been watching SYTTD with me lately and is very vocal about what styles he does not like.]

Then I made a list of things I am not THINKING I like but would be willing to try anyway. as well as a list of things I'd prefer.

EDIT:  I should also mention that after realizing how few non-strapless dresses there are out there, I loosened up a bit and decided I was willing to consider it, and in the process ran across another dress design that I now like better than my original favorite.  It's actually got a detachable beaded halter strap, and I prefer it with the strap, but the shape of the dress is fantastic.

I am hoping that will help my sales consultant have better options when I go in later this month!

  • I dont think I realized the difference between just a run of the mill strapless top (which always look horrible on me) and a real bridal strapless gown. The one I ended up getting had a corset which does a nice job of pushing everything in and up! So it look so much better than I thought. Though I am going to have to hit the gym and work on some better guns.

I did! And unfortunately we left the camera in the hotel we staying in that night! I'm hoping to get it back but I haven't even gotten a confirmation that they found it. So I might have to wait 4 months to see it agian!!! I could just kick myself (and my mom) for forgetting that damn camera.

On a side not we traveled to a shop in Louisville called the Bridal Suite of Louisville. They were so worth the drive it was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend them to anyone in the area.
  • You're right... Very dramatic and quite gorgeous!
