Bridesmaid's dresses fabric

I am on the search for bridesmaids dresses and want each of them to pick their own style dress, just in the same color. I need some advice. Should I pick a fabric that the dresses all have to be, or mix and match fabrics? There is some discrepancy about whether or not the different fabrics will cause the color to look slightly different. HELP!

It is perfectly ok to mix and match fabrics. If it does cause a color variation, it will be really pretty in pics. My BM's all wore the same fabric, but different styles of dresses. There is not really a right or wrong way.

This really depends on how much it'll bother you, and on the fabrics and colors you're using. I'd suggest getting some swatches of the color you want in each fabric, checking them out in person, and photographing them so you can see how different they'll look in photos.

It is okay to mix and match fabrics, but don't go overboard. Don't have one girl wear all chiffon, and another wear all taffeta. The crispness of the taffeta just won't match the softness of the chiffon. It just won't look right.

There might be a dress that is a mixture of chiffon and satin, and then some dresses could be chiffon and others satin.

I would also mix and match fabrics based off of the fabric of your gown. If your gown is lace with satin underneath, see if there is a BM dress that has elements of lace and/or satin.

There are many options, and it could look great if you mix and match, but it could also look pretty terrible.  Just think through your decisions and try to make all them have some sort of cohesive thing that brings it all together.

I just told my girls to wear black.  The MOH wore lace over satin like my dress, one was chiffon, one was velvet (maybe?) and I don't know about the other two.  It didn't really make a difference in the photos.

I wouldn't mix and match fabric. It changes the color and look.

Do you mean the exact shade of a particular color or are you just telling them a color in general. If you are not telling them an exact shade of a particular color, it will not look good.

If it were me, I'd probably choose the color and fabric.  I wouldn't want one girl to end up in cotton and another to end up in satin.  It would look off-balanced in my opinion. 

It might be easier to pick a store, like Jcrew or Nordstrom and say pick any dress from here in x color and fabric, or even give them two fabric options such as chiffon and silk.

It really depends on how much it matters to you if they match EXACTLY or not.  I have some tolerance for my bridesmaids dresses not being exact (to me, it's more important that they're comfortable and can wear the dress again). My sister on the other hand, is VERY detail-oriented and having even slightly mismatched dresses would drive her crazy.  To each her own!

If you're the type of person who would be bothered if the dresses look a little off in the photos, I'd recommend choosing a fabric and a color, and letting your ladies pick a style.
