Indecisive bride on BM dresses!

I am having a outside wedding and I don’t want anything formal just something that flows and as some fun in it. My BM are buying there own dresses so I am trying to stay in a budget that won’t break the bank. (they are in collage after all). I am wearing a teacup length dress so I would love the dresses to be shorter than mine but I will take longer if I love the dress. I am not sure 100% on the color, my colors are to be green brown and blue so I guess anything like that. Its hard bc I don’t want them to wear something they aren’t comfortable with and I have all different sizes from short to tall and big to twig BMS. I have look everywhere I can think of and I can’t seem to find any that I can get that’s affordable! Please help! Thank you

  • Why dont you pick a color and a length and let them pick their own dress?

I guess I am just not daring enough for that.. I have always seen weddings were the bridesmaids are all wearing the same thing that I guess that its edge into my mind like that. Plus I don't have a very good fashion eye and would approve what ever they picked and they would all end up looking like a bunch of BM, each going to a different wedding lol.

Even though I've tried not to be, I have become a difficult bride on this. My wedding is not for another year so I still have time to shop.. but I don't know of any other stores!
I am making this problem  harder than it needs to be lol
  • I picked color and length and it came out great.  If you're worried about continuity, tell them to get their dresses from the same designer. Actually, I woudn't do it any other way.  If you pick the designer too, (say, Mori Lee, Dessy, Lazaro if your bridal party can afford it, David's Bridal if not), they should all look good together.

I know a lot of people look down their nose at David's Bridal, but I used them for my bridesmaids dresses.  I spent a lot of money on my own dress, but I did not want my bridesmaids to do the same.  To me, it was more important that my girls could be a part of my day without breaking the bank than it was to have a couture bridesmaids dresses.  I told them all to get something short in DB's Marine (navy blue) and to check with me first to make sure they didn't duplicate.  It turned out great.  I haven't gotten married yet, but I've seen all the dresses and they look great and each girl is happy because she didn't get stuck buying a dress she didn't like.  Also DB sells fabric swatches for a dollar, so you can buy one in your color to give to the florist, cake baker, whomever you think might need to know your colors.  I carry my DB swatch and some valspar paint sample cards of my other colors in a plastic baggie in my purse, so that whenever I'm out and about and I see something I think I may want for the wedding, I whip out my swatches to see if it matches.  Best idea I've ever had.  It's been really useful.

Take a look at the DB catalog at the link below and see how different dresses that are the same color can create a cohesive look (like pages 19, 21 and 25 for example).  That might help you feel better about your reservations.

Good luck!  I hope this helps.
  • Please don't make your BMs order a dress this far in advance. And also, the matchy matchy look went out in the 80s. Go to Davids or Alfred Angelo and tell them a length and a color. If you don't go this route, be sure to ask them a budget privately before you ask them to buy a dress. I was sent a link to a $150 dress when I really didn't want to spend more than $100 and I was mad about it.
  • I picked out a color and my BMs picked their own dresses. They decided on length between the two of them. (I said pick either long or short, I don't care either way as long as you come to a consensus together).  The result was gorgeous. Each person picked a dress that they loved and that flattered their body shape.

    this was our wedding party:

  • I second doing davids or AA or somethting similiar and give them color, length, fabric guidelines. I too was not a fan of davids due to a bad experience years ago, but one of my maids talked me in to checking them out and I was pleasantly surprised.  We almost got an AA dress and I am happy we ventured over to davids before deciding.  There stock has made big improvement and while we did not get an "experience," we found perfect dresses and I could not be happier with them!  They were below our budget and they came in less than a month!  Between 5 girls they ended up liking two styles and they compliment each other so well.  Each girl looks awesome in her choice, which is important since they are spending money-- sounds like you have a lot of variety, so in the end I think you will be much happier when your girls all look awesome in something they feel good in.

and with your wedding a year away, slow your roll--new designs will come out soon so you might as well wait 6 months before even looking for their dresses!  No need for it to sit in their closet--and so much can happen in a year with their shape & size.  Keep looking for inspiration (let them look and give ideas too).
