Need some color-coordinating advice

Originally, my fiance and I decided not to have a bridal party (because we are college students and it seemed like another huge expense), but now I am reconsidering. I am looking for opinions or suggestions on colors. My dress is white and my fiance will be wearing a white jacket with black pants. If we do have a bridal party, I want the bridesmaids to wear blue, but what should the groomsmen wear? We are trying to avoid tuxes because they are expensive. Should I incorporate the blue into their outfits, or just go simple and have them wear black suits? This area is one of my weaknesses so any ideas would be helpful. Thank you!

Re: Need some color-coordinating advice

  • You have the groomsmen wear black suits with a white shirt and blue tie (solid or pattern) or you can have them wear a blue shirt with a black tie.  You could also just have them in something very classic like a black suit, black tie, and white shirt and then incorporate the blue in their boutonnieres.

  • I agree with the previous post.  Simple is what we are going for as well with our wedding.  Black suits with a nice shirt and a tie would be perfect.  It sort of depends on the color blue, if it's a dark blue then I think the color of tie as a dark blue would be perfect.  If it's a lighter shade of blue, then a black tie or similar color shirt with a nice boutonniere would be nice.  If you didn't want to spend the money on the boutonniere, a handkerchief in the pocket would be nice too the blue color.

  • Black suits are very funereal.  I'd do a navy or grey suit.  Every man should own a navy or grey suit, they are much more multi-purpose than black.
