White vs Ivory Dress

I have a bit of a dilemma. I went dress shopping last weekend and we decided on the Maggie Sottero dress Bianca. When I tried it on it was in Ivory. I actually thought it was white but when I went back today to order it they reconfirmed if I wanted it in Ivory. I said no that I wanted it in white but when I left I looked at a couple of pics online and it looks like they don't put the puter beads on the white dress so the beads look a little more washed out. Trying to find a photo of it in white. What are your thoughts on white vs ivory? Thanks!

Re: White vs Ivory Dress

  • My dress is ivory since white makes me look kinda pale.

  • ditto PPs--mine is a Sottero & Midgley and is ivory, but looks white to me. I'm pale, so I definitely son't want to go with stark white... I'd say go with ivory, unless your skin is tan/dark (in which case white may look better on you)

  • I think the contrast with the ivory/pewter is gorgeous and if you tried that colour on in store and it suited you then go for it. I think the detail would get lost on the white dress if the detail isn't pewter.
Does the store carry any other Maggie designs in Valentina Satin where they have a white sample you could look at to compare the fabric colour and see what suits you best? Try not to get too hung up on the name of the colour though or only wanting white etc - if you try a dress you like then get it if the colour looked good when you tried it on. I found some whites looked awful but then some ivory did too depending on the brand/fabric etc.
  • Maggie Sottero's white is blinding! I tried on the ivory version of Ella Marie, and did not believe that it was ivory until they showed me one of her dresses in white. I would vote ivory because white beads on a white dress just won't stand out and the detail would be lost.
  • Also confirming that Maggie's white is Oh My Gosh White. I ordered in ivory and I'm also pasty white.

  • Thanks so much everyone. Does anyone have a photo of a satin Maggie white?
  • I initially got an ivory dress and was very happy with it, when I ran it past my mother she freaked out and threw a huge fit and made me get an entirely new dress in white. This actually worked out well for me because I like the white dress better. She is more conservative so ivory vs. white is a big deal for her. I say wear what looks better on you but if you have a conservative family you may want to keep this in mind.
  • I don't really understand why people freak out over the ivory/white debate. Go with whichever looks better for that dress, on you. Just because the name isn't "white" doesn't mean it's not white. Geez.

  • Check and see if the store has a different dress (but same fabric/designer) in white. My sample dress was ivory, but I wanted to see the white, so I ended up holding up a flower girl dress, lol, to get the idea of what the white would look like on me.

Also, make sure your skin will be the same color at the time of the wedding. It occurred to me after I ordered my dress (in white) that I was fairly tan since it was August - but that my wedding is in May and I won't be quite as dark. Thank goodness for tanning salons!

  • I like the ivory better than white, it is more flattering for most skin tones.

<div>Agree.  An ivory dress is still "a white dress".</div><div>
</div><div>I picked ivory because I have a warm skin tone and the ivory just looks better on me.  I think you should base your decision on what looks best on you.</div>
