Veil alternatives?

I'm not so into veils. I was very into the idea of a hair ornament, but lately I've been thinking of sort of a pearl (or flowers and pearls) scattered in hair thing. Like this:

 I think it's a nice way to incorporate pearls (traditional for brides, I guess? according to this: http://www.jewelry.com/education-bridal-pearl.shtml) and it's sort of boho, in its way. My question is, how does one find pearls to use in one's hair? (Not real ones, obviously). Craft stores, maybe? I have an idea of not so much doing pearl pins as individual pearls, but how would one do that? Are pins unavoidable? I am prone to stabbing myself with them......

So it definitely depends on your stylist.  Are you imagining hair up or down?  One option (that would be fairly cheap) would be to buy pearl beads from craft store and simply super-glue them to the bobby-pins.  If you are doing your hair up, you would likely have a few (or dozens) of bobby-pins anyway and having a number of them with pearls seems like it could be beautiful.  Another very popular touch recently are feathers.  There are lots of examples in the hairstyle section. 

And if you don't want a veil, you don't need a veil!

If you want those strands hanging down, go to your local craft store. They should have invisible thread (like fishing line) and pearlescent beads. Just tie knots in the string and string the beads onto it. Then secure with hot glue. You can attach this to hair pins or small combs to have it stay in.

a little cage viel or short veil can be removed after the ceremony also.
