Would you ever go shopping with another bride?

My sister in law is also planning a wedding.  Hers is a ways after mine...but she's in town now and she wants to go dress shopping with me on Tuesday.
She's also jokingly mentioned trying a few on herself...she's been dying for the experienc I just know it.   I replied that she should- but didn't think about what I was saying as I said it.

My sister is concerned that it steals the spot light....but I couldn't care less about that.  I'm not a princess...I'm not going to make preliminary gown shopping "my moment" you know.  HOWEVER...I am concerned that since my SIL is not seriously going to buy a gown right now- that it will be wasting the time of the bridal shop attendant.

Most of me doesn't regret telling her to try some gowns on while we're there....I think it will be fun.  But a small part of me wishes I hadn't....

What do you think?

judge the non-traditional, pop their happy little wedding balloons... and sleep better tonight for you have made the world a better place.

Re: Would you ever go shopping with another bride?

  • I am not sure, I think it all depends on what kind of girl she is. It could be helpful for you both or it could backfire.
  • I went shopping with my best friend--we were engaged at the same time, and it made sense. So we scheduled double appointments at a few salons and did it.

If your SIL hasn't booked an appointment, it's possible that shops won't even let her try on dresses. Their attendants are just too busy for that, and you're right, she will be wasting their time if she's not buying.

I think you responded well. If she tries on a few gowns, it's no big deal. But more than likely, she won't be able to anyway.
  • IT IS FUN!!!! I have two close friends (both BM'S of mine) that are getting married this year too. One in June and the other the weekend after me. Crazy, but so much fun. Although all 3 weddings are completely different, I wouldnt have it any other way. Go shopping, chat, exchange ideas....Its nice to have someone so close that is going through the same thing. Embrace it and it will be fabulous. Dont turn into one of those brides....."ME! ME! ME! Its MY special year and no one elses!"

And by the way, I found my dress while shopping with one of the other brides. It was great having her there :)
  • i think as previous poster said it depends on her but I think it could be a fun shared experience, and you guys can make sure you don't get the same dress. Winkok kidding, but still it could be great, who will be more enthusiastic for another bride finding their dress then another bride!
  • I would go shopping with another bride, IMO it would be fun! I wouldn't be too worried about her wasting the consultant's time sometimes girls find the dress when they don't expect to or she could end up going back there to get it.

  • One of my dress shopping trips was with a friend.  We went to David's at a time when they were really, really slow, and lucked out to get a consultant who was great at keeping both of our sizes and preferences straight.  (My MOH assisted with getting us into and out of the dresses.)  I can't recall exactly, but I'm pretty sure I found my dress that day.  It was a pretty good experience (even though the other bride's wedding ended up getting called off.)
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • While it could be fun, it sounds like she's coming in from out of town?  If it's far enough away that she wouldn't want to buy the dress there even if you found it, it would be wasting the consultant's time.  I always feel bad about that, since most of the money they get is from commissions.
