BHLDN Burnished Organza, and other sparkly gowns.

Hello! I need some dress ideas, if you ladies have any.. We're getting married on New Years Eve next year. I thought it would be really fun and cute to wear something super sparkly and sequiny. I like sparkly sequins, but I don't want anything that looks cheap or too prom-ish. I really like this dress from BHLDN:
The thing is though, I'm pretty sure it will not work for my body type. BHLDN doesn't have a salon near me, so I would have to order it without trying it on. They do let you return anything that is unworn and unaltered for a full refund though, and I do have plenty of time, so that might be an option. I'm not super busty, but I just have a feeling this dress is made for smaller chested girls and it looks like it will flatten me out. I say that because that is how most real bride photos I've seen of this dress look. Plus, I am pretty pear shaped, and I'm not sure about the ruffles. I also love this Sarah Seven gown, but it is a little bit over budget:

I've also considered just getting a more traditional gown and getting something short and sparkly for my reception dress. Do you girls know of any designers that make sparkly dresses that don't look ugly in the less than $1600 range? Thanks!

  • I'd definitely check out department stores. There are some amazing dresses at Saks and Bloomi's and a bunch of them will be on sale after New Years. I also like this one: http://www.zappos.com/product/8073132/color/632 I have it in black and it's superflattering on a pear shaped girl.

If you like more traditional wedding dresses, check out

Or Maggie Sottero dresses. They fall in your price range and have lots of bling.

The best bet would be to go to a bridal store and tell them you want super sparkly and your budget. You'll find some great options.

  • The others have great suggestions. I love the Sarah Steven gown you posted, but the BHLDN one IMHO, like all dresses with contrast busts, makes it look like the wearer's boobs are alien bug eyes to me. But I could be totally alone and crazy on that one!

  • I would recommend going to a full service bridal salon and tell them what you are looking for, many have gowns that you can buy off the rack and even make some changes and make the dress fit you perfectly.

I would never buy a dress without trying it on and if it is returnable, how do you know that you will get your money refunded or will that part be a huge hassle?  Not worth it, get the experience of trained sales bridal ladies to help you.  Best of luck and shopping to you.
  • I wouldn't think that getting a refund from BHLDN would be a problem.  They're part of the Anthropologie group.

<div>Scooter, I agree too. But if it only costs you shipping, it's worth giving it a try if you really like it. Worst case, just ship it back</div><div>
</div><div>I second PP's suggestions of going to a high end department store like Nordstroms, Lord and Taylor, or Neimen Marcus to look at their evening dresses. With that price range you should be able to find something beautiful. </div><div>

</div><div>Also I'm sure that bridal salons will be able to show you plenty of sparkly bridal gowns. Give them a try and see what they have. </div><div>

  • Well, I ordered the BHLDN gown, so we shall see. I've ordered (and returned) lots of things from anthropologie, and it is pretty easy and they provide free return shipping, so we shall see. If it doesn't work out I'm going to hit the after holiday sales and see what I can find. You all had good suggestions, so thanks!
