Serious Dress Stress

Hi Attire Board!!! I am a first time poster on this board.

Let me start by saying- I KNEW dress shopping would be hard for me. I panic when it comes to making sure things look the way I want them with clothes. I can never seem to find exactly what I am picturing in my head. Sometimes I don't even know what I am trying to find. I have been to about six dress shops. I know people have been to tons more than that but I'm not sure how much more I can take haha. I found some I really like but none that make me cry and scream out "this is the dress!" Admittedly- I do'nt think I"m that type of person when it comes to clothes. So- my mom and sister are coming out this weekend. I am getting married 7-19-13 so I really need to get moving on this. I really would like to make the final decision when they are here. So far I like the two in the pictures below the best. What do you think??

Also- I am thinking of hitting up two more shops on Friday am before they get here and just going alone. If I like something I can always bring them back to that store. I have brought so many people with me at different times that I think going alone may help.

Thoughts??

Absolutely the first one!! Though I'm admittedly not a fan of any dress with a long train that needs bustling......
  • I love both of them on you, but I think the second was really flatters yourfigure.

  • I love them both, but the 2nd one flatters you more!

  • I MUCH prefer the first dress. But I've also seen the second one so many times lately that I'm just over it, so there's that.

  • I personally love the second one.  Trust your gut on this one.

The dress isn't going to make the day perfect.  The fact that your marrying your FI is going to make the day perfect.  So deep breath.  You can do this!  :-)
  • I think that they both look amazing on you but I really like the first one.  I have seen the second one it seems a million times before but I like the first one because of the fun skirt and it gives you a great shape.

  • I think both are beautiful, but the second one is more flattering on you, IMO.

  • The first one, without a doubt.  However, they both look amazing on you and I don't think you can go wrong.

  • I love the second one, but it really comes down to how you feel about the dress and how you want to look on your day...more fun or more elegant?

I think you look great in both and they both show off your great shape so I don't really think you can make a "bad" choice.

  • Thank you everyone! I have no idea why I am putting so much pressure on myself to find the "perfect" dress.

I agree that I do see the second dress EVERYWHERE which is part of the reason I am hesitant on that one. I guess I am also a little worried that the second one looks cheap? I'm not sure why I think that really...

And Bostongirl you are 100% right!! I need to print that out and carry it with me when I go dress shopping again haha

  • I love both of the dresses. They look beautiful on you! They are very similar until you get closer to the bottom of the dress and I love the first one because of the little extra "flair" the ruffles give, it seems to be more on the youthful side. But, the second one is beautiful too, but the sleeker skirt and long train gives it more of a classy, timeless feel. The girls are right, it's seen all over the place too but that doesn't make it any less beauitul. :) I think which ever you pick will looking amazing!
  • I like the first one, for the same reasons as some PP.  the second dress is everywhere right now.

Going by yourself may not be a bad idea..   too many opinions can cloud your judgement, which is already wavering.

PS.   I think I would LOVE the first one more if it was in ivory instead of white.    Ivory is just a softer color, and would go better with the fluff at the bottom of the dress (in my opinion).
  • Agree with PPs, the second dress is everywhere but I have to say that I think the shape of it looks wonderful on you.  I would recommend going shopping on your own before your family gets in so you can wrap your own head around what you love.  If you like the shape of the second dress but you're not thrilled with THAT dress, take the photo with you on your shopping trip and see what the other shops have that would be a similar shape in different fabric, etc..  Good luck!
  • They're both beautiful, but the second suits you better, I think.

  • I think if you are going for the look of the first dress, you should ask your alteration lady if she can move the flare of the skirt farther down. It sits too high, and gives the illusion of bottomheaviness right at the hips. Just a couple more inches of tapering along your leg would look amazing and fix that illusion.

  • I think the first dress is very unique--like some of the previous posts said I've seen the 2nd dress many many times (its Maggie Sottero's most popular seller if I'm correct)

I just think the first one is so much fun and adds a bit of unexpected flair. And I LOVE the belt.

Don't overshop. You will just end up confusing yourself. Just go again when your family is with you and commit to making a decision!

    You look lovely :)

  • I want to say the second one because that is the dress I just bought two weeks ago. I ordered it without the beading up top. Maggie Sottero right?

I know a few have said the seond one flatters your shape more but I think the first one does. You look gorgeous in it!
  • They both look great on you but the second dress is more flattering.  It all depends on the type of wedding though.  A more formal wedding?  Choose #1.  A more casual affair?  #2 is the one.  You do look great in both gowns!
  • First one! You look beautiful in it! The second one is really over done.

  • They both show off your shape beautifully but I think the FIRST one has that extra special touch with that bottom flare.  Go with your gut as everyone else has said and don't worry about what you "should" wear or what everyone thinks, as too many opinions can confuse you.  I feel pressure to look perfect too and I felt a certain pressure to wear whatever is in "trend", but when it came down to it, I chose what went best with my body type and how it made me look and feel.  Good luck! And you will have moments after you choose when you second guess, but if they allow you to try it on again you should and you will remember why you chose it.

  • Thank you everyone for your help and comments. I am going this weekend to both shops to try on a few more and finalize. I just have to make a decision so I stop tourturing myself!!! Thanks again for the help!!!

Don't feel bad about this-I am the same way. I internalize every decision so much. When FI and I started looking at rings the stupid salesman kept saying "Oh! She's not over-the-moon about it so it must not be the one!"...STFU. You don't me! Luckily my Mom/Sister/Grandmother/Sales consultant understood this about me, and let me make my decision.

Don't let anyone pressure you into/out of a dress because you're not showing a "typical" reaction! And both look beautiful on you!
