White or Not White?

My fiance really wants me to surprise him with my wedding dress and not to tell him what I'm looking at/for etc.  I keep picturing myself in an off white or gold or pink dress, but he keeps saying things like, " I can't wait to see you coming down the aisle in your white dress!"  He is not the type of guy to drop hints or anything, so he isn't trying to put an idea in my head, but I'm kind of nervous that he may be disappointed if I don't meet his vision and wear a different color.

Thoughts?

*** I also wanted to point out that I'm not thinking a bright pink. I really like that pale pink Lazarro dress 3819.  Not hot pink or anything too crazy.

Just ask him flat-out.  I was in love with a light blue Mori Lee at one point, and I said "Hey FI - what would you think if my dress was light blue or silver or pale pink or something?"  Turns out, it was really important to him that I be in white (not necessarily pure white, but a shade that is a "regular" wedding dress color) so I went with a similar dress in ivory.  You don't have to show him a picture to find out if he'd be okay with pink.

He might be using "white" in a generic sense.  But I think you could see how he would feel about blush, ivory, or other colors without letting on that you're thinking about it...take advantage of an opportune moment if he's looking over your shoulder at a wedding magazine or if "Say Yes to the Dress" "Brides of Beverly Hills" "Four Weddings" or etc. is on TV.

Guys don't know the difference between ivory, white, eggshell, diamond white, pearl white - etc.,etc. 

Pick whatever color you'd like - he'll be looking at you, not what color your dress is

Thanks! I ended up just asking what he thought. He is ok with anything, it was in a generic sense.
