Need advice on two matters.......

I picked up my dress yesterday and brought it home. I bought my dress pretty early which was not the plan but it just happened. Since we still have a a ways till the wedding other details such as jewelry and my FI's tux have not been finalized yet. This is where things get sticky.......I have an ivory dress and when I say ivory I mean true ivory, like a cream color not just a shade or two off of stark white. My FI has his heart set on wearing a white tux jacket with a white shirt, black pants and black bow tie. We have not been to the tux store to see what colors they have the jackets in (maybe they will have an off white?) but if I have an ivory dress can he still wear the white jacket that he wants? I don't want to tell him no but at the same time I don't want us to look stupid next to each other with me in ivory and him in white. Which brings me to my next question. Can I wear jewelry that is made out of a white metal such as silver or white gold with my ivory dress? My e-ring is palladium which is a naturally white metal and I am not a fan of yellow gold.  I am worried that the necklace I picked out, which is made of a white meta,l will not match my ivory dress. Anyone have any advice on these two matters?

  • I agree that your jewelery is fine, but the white tux would look very strange.  I personally am not a fan of white tuxes anyway, but it will definately look stange next to your dress.
  • A white tux next to your ivory dress will make you dress look "dirty". Men's wearhouse offers ivory tuxes (at least where i live) that your fi may like too.
  • I assume that your FI is talking about wearing a white dinner jacket.  Which is actually ivory, not a true stark white.  It will look totally fine with the warm tone of your gown, and yes, his shirt should be white, not ivory.

seriously.  I promise this will look great in pictures.  Very cute and retro.

[QUOTE]I don't think he should wear a white jacket with you wearing ivory. The necklace and ring are fine.

    Ditto this!
  • It's your FI's wedding too, so let him wear what he wants. If you're concerned about how white and ivory will look together, bring a swatch of fabric to the tux place as the PP said. You can show him what you mean, but if he really wants to wear white, let him.

I gave my FI free rein to wear anything he chose, but then he ended up bringing me with him to the tux place. He was afraid I'd be upset if the vests didn't exactly match the BM dresses. Tongue out I had been beginning to accept the worst case scenario, which would be vests in one of his favorite colors (red or green) with the BM's lilac dresses. In the end as long as he's happy, I'm happy, and we get married, who cares what everyone wears?
  • Thank you everyone for your advice, it is so helpful!!!!
