J Crew Bridesmaids: Vent.

Bridezilla warning.

So we went to order our bridesmaids dresses today online from J Crew, and of course, the colour and sizes we want are BACKORDERED until JULY. Well, thankfully, my wedding is beginning of September but this only leaves a very small period for possible exchanges if sizes are big/small or alterations. SO disappointed with J crew right now - their 25% off promo is great for whoever was able to order their dresses but I think it will leave a lot of people going elsewhere if their wedding isn't til after August.

Has anyone else had to deal with backorders from J Crew? Was it earlierr than indicated, longer? We ordered a bunch of sizes to be sure of sizing since everyones doing the typical "oh I'll lose 20 lbs by the summer". I just am hoping we actually do get the dresses by the time they've 'said'. Maybe next time plan your inventory a little better before having a humongous sale. Ugh!!

So... if you were planning on using J Crew this summer and haven't ordered already - get on it!!

Do J Crew bridesmaids' dresses usually ship immediately? Four months is the norm for many of the designers so you're in the same boat as a lot of us. We ordered ours in February for our July wedding and they are expected in June--yikes!
  • Yeah I thought of that. My FSIL's wedding we got ours maybe 8 weeks before but it was tight timing for alterations we found as many were going back numerous times. I just really hope the date they gave us is like a worst case scenario, and doesn't end up taking longer because if not we're SCREWED and would need to find a plan B now as opposed to July 30th!!! 4 weeks is not enough time to get new bridesmaids dresses.
  • If you don't have your heart set on J Crew, maybe try bridal warehouse? They might have a location in your area. The dresses we're looking at is around $115.00, which to me isn't that unreasonable in comparison to other places.
  • We didnt have any problem with backordered sizes when we got the dresses for my girls.  I found, though, that J. Crew was REALLY good about switching sizes even though our style had been discontinued and they technically considered the dresses final sale.  Two of my girls got new dresses sent to them within 3 days of calling the 1800 number.

One of my BMs sizes was "backordered". It showed up in less than half the time that was promised. We also had to return sizes, and it was quick & easy.

Overall, we had great service from J Crew, so please try not go get frustrated!

Great to know. I got my dress from J crew - no problems came in less than a week. I am hoping that we have a similar situation to yours!!

I'm more furstrated with my bridesmaids for loafting on this. We got fitted first in December but two were deadset on dropping 2-3 sizes in the subsequent 9 months. Sigh.
  • I have found that their backordered items arrive wayyyy earlier than promised. For the bridesmaids dresses, I ended up ordering the dresses through their bridal boutique in NYC. Even though we went there to try on the dresses, I did all of the ordering over the phone. The women there were able to look through the inventory and order directly from the warehouse. They were able to tell us how many of each size were available and where they were coming from, so it might be helpful to call and see what they can do for you. They might even be able to give you a better idea of when they will be delivered.

I am in love with how the dresses came out- Good luck!!!

Thanks! In this case, there is ZERO in the entire j crew inventory and they are having new ones made (probably in China). This is why it is taking so long. Get sewing!!!!!!
  • I have been having a really frustrating time with my J. Crew bridesmaid dresses for our wedding as well. I am so in love with them, but the backorder date keeps getting pushed back, and our wedding is the second weekend in August. (I ordered them back in March.) I still don't have all of the dresses, and just got notification that some of the sizes may not ship until July 11.  As our backup plan, I chose some similar dresses at Nordstrom and purchased those (since their return policy is so good), with the intention to return if the J. Crew ones don't work out.  I have been crossing my fingers for months now that they show up any day...
  • Are they aware of the situation, Kristie? I haven't dealt with them for bridal, but the answer to any atypical request I've made of them over the years has always been "we don't normally do this, but sure, no problem". I would think for something as important as this they would look into it for your peace of mind.
