Groom attire - How to make my groom stand out??

My groom wants to wear a dark blue tie. My colour choice was green.. so we're doing a green and blue wedding (Green bridesmaids dresses with blue accents and bouquets..). I am fine with having the groomsen in blue ties and vests, but since it's my groom that wants to be in a dark blue tie, I don't know how to make him stand out as the groom. I'm used to the groom being in a white or pale tie and vest while the groomsmen are in darker colours....

I'm totally fine with letting FI be dressed the way he wants - he has as much right to feeling his best as I do - but I'm just wondering how to make it work... Ideas? :-)

  • The type and color of flower in his boutonniere will help him stand out from the groomsmen.

  • Pssst ... he'll stand out no matter what he's wearing. He's the groom! H and his best man wore identical tuxedos (no other groomsmen), their boutonnieres were different, though.
  • Let him wear blue if he wants to. DH wore pink because he wanted too. The GMs wore green.

  • He will automatically stand out because he is the groom:-) But you can get him a white boutiniere, and the groomsmen colored ones.

  • Our guys are all wearing grey suits, white shirts, and blue ties. My FI is also going to wear a vest that matches the suit.

Don't worry, he'll stand out - he's the one marrying you!

Also, I disagree about how it's bad form for the groom to take attention away from the bride. It's his wedding too. And some brides don't WANT all of the attention.

My husband had a one-button tux, while his best man and groomsmen had two-button tuxes. One-button tuxes don't work for everyone but that could be an option. Giving him a blue tie and the groomsmen green ties definitely would, too.

  • Awesome - thanks everyone! I want FI to look awesome and feel his best, and he's comfortable in dark blue, so dark blue it is! The boutenniere idea is great, thanks! I'm still gonna play with colour ideas.... because I love doing it :D But I love the ideas. And you're right, I'm sort of worrying about something a bit silly. But I want him to stand out too! He deserves it :) And I'm not a hog the spotlight girl at all. And I think (maybe I'm crazy) that since it's OUR day, he's not taking anything away from me by standing out - he's helping US stand out! But yes, you're all right, I won't worry too much about MAKING him stand out - he'll do that on his own.

[QUOTE]The groom is not suppposed to stand out. It is considered bad form for him to take the attention away from YOU, the bride! Like pps have said, get him a special boutonniere. Uh, not true. That's a modern wedding-industry concept - "it's all about the bride." Two people are getting married, and they are equally important. To the original poster - the groom will stand out because he is the groom, and standing next to the bride. Everyone should know who he is.

Could not agree more. And OP, the groom is going to stand out no matter what. Let him wear what makes him happy.
