....strapless wedding gowns....

....do not look good on everyone!  So, why are 99.9% of wedding gowns strapless?  Gone are the days when there were options!  My first wedding I had choices!  Long sleeve, short sleeve, cap sleeve, spaghetti strap.....today's choice is nothing but strapless!!!  It's not so much my fat arms or shoulders like a linebacker, it's my patchy two toned white and pink skin that grosses me out.  I know, I know, I can wear a shrug or a bolero.....The 80's and 90's may have had the BIG POOFY gowns, but you still had some choices.  Today, everything is strapless and just looks the same to me.  I want something original!

You need to keep looking.  I've seen many dresses that have straps, cap sleeves, etc.  They are out there you just have to work a little harder to find them.  In addition, you can always have sleeves added to a dress you love that happens to be strapless.
  • I saw lots of dresses without straps when I was looking, a lot of them were 'optional'. I would keep looking, and you can definitely always add straps! Maybe whoever is responsible for ordering dresses at the store's you've been to so far is anti-straps lol
  • My dress has cap sleeves and I didn't have to try that hard to find it.  In fact, 2 of the 5 dresses I tried on had sleeves of some sort (both had cap sleeves, one had the option of removing them).  So they're out there, you just need to find them.

  • I added halter straps to my dress :)
I have always wanted halter straps, and a dress that didn't look like every other strapless, a-line one that is out there.

  • There are options out there or like FutureMrsSheeler said you can get straps added through a seamstess. :)
  • The gown I chose has off shoulder lace sleeves and during my search I came across several dresses with straps, sleeves, etc...  It's true that the majority of dresses are strapless, but if you tell your consultant that you don't want strapless she can probably help you find options too.  :)  Also, since Princess Kate wore lace sleeves for her wedding there have been more dresses coming out with sleeves recently.  So just take a deep breath and then give shopping another shot.  Good luck!

Just as a bit of inspiration for you, Alfred Angelo did a copy of Bella's dress and it is LOVELY!

  • Usually you can either have them put something on them or wear a lace covering that looks like it is part of the dress.

  • Like PP's said, adding cap sleeves or straps is not that hard.  In fact, that's exactly what I did when I ordered my dress.  I loved the dress, but didn't like the strapless.  Also they're really good in the shop about giving you the idea of what the sleeves will look like when you're in the shop so you're not buying blind.

I was totally opposed to strapless as well. I wanted one shoulder or cap sleeves. I troed a strapless on because I liked the silhouette of the dress and it turned out to look amazing on me! I agree strapless doesnt look great on everyone, but dont count it out until you try it on.
