new here and have a problem

I am having a 4th of july themed outdoor wedding.   My problem is...  my dress is pure white.. long... I want to add a color sash either blue or red..  my bridesmaid dresses are a pretty blue and going to be putting a sash on them..  the issue is i bought my flowergirl dress and its white with red..  its really expensive and i cant afford to exchange it...    my df wants to wear linen off white suit and a red and white guiham (SP) check shirt...  How do I tie all the colors in without looking like a circus....  He wants the guys to wear the same- minus the the jacket...  so they would just have pants and the same shirt...  im thinking maybe the guys should wear a tastful red and blue shirt and then i can have a red sash to match my flowergirl..   Any idea?????????

  • Okay.  Take a deep breath.  If this is the biggest "problem" you have, then you're doing pretty well.

Second, it is REALLY difficult to understand posts that do not contain sentences.

Third, I don't understand what you mean by "4th of July Themed Wedding."  Is your wedding ON the 4th of July?  Is it just a patriotic theme?  Red-white-and-blue?

I think a white sash would look nicest, but if you really want a color then I would recommend blue to match the bridesmaid dresses.   If you did that, the grooms would also look best in blue "gingham" checked shirts (think picnic-table cloth).  Then you can do red flowers to tie the red into everything.

The main problem I see is the combo of off white and pure white next to each other.  Could he be convinced to wear a pure white suit?
If it were me, I would keep the BMs all blue and accent with red (and blue) flowers (no sash), then get the guys to wear blue checked shirts with red boutineers while your fiance has the red shirt on? Or perhaps have the groomsmen wear solid color shits.
Picking a base color and accenting it with the other color would calm things down.
  • Ok Ill try better with my wording.   The wedding is June 30th.   Therefore, I have chosen to make it red white and blue themed.   We are having the wedding on a lake and there will be fireworks as well as the normal 4th celebrations on that Saturday.

Here are some pictures.   The bridesmaid dresses currently have a black ribbon.   However, we will be removing (or covering) that.    Either with white or red.   My big issue is I want everything to flow and look nice, not tacky.   My dress I would like to match the flower girls... as far as color accents.   I was also thinking maybe I see how much it would cost to by blue fabric and switch the red to blue if that is even possible.

Thanks for calming me down...   I cant sleep at night worring about this..

  • Ditto PP.

Also, please use black type. The red is very bright for a lot of people.

  • Okay, that makes much more sense now.  I guess if I had looked more closely at your user name I would have realized you're getting married on June 30th.

I'm not exactly sure how a sash would look on your dress with the side gathers.  Honestly, I think it looks awesome the way it is, and a sash would detract from it a little bit.  However, some red accents (to match the FG dress) would look nice.

I think the BM dress with a white sash would look awesome.  Then you could do the groom in a red-and-white shirt, and groomsmen in blue-and-white.  I agree about ivory-colored linen looking weird.  Could they be pursuaded to go with a light tan?

  • I was playing with David's Bridal program... These are blurry... Im sorry but hopefully you can see my issue.... They also dont allow you to put the men in anything but a tux...    The pictures also attached are kinda the look I am going for...

Sorry I got a little crazy with sharing my idea pics....   The guys look not color is what I am hoping to achieve... minus the lays...
  • I like the look of the bm's dress in blue with the white sash, the fg with the blue sash and your dress with no sash. Just my opinion though.

  • I like the bridesmaids best with the white sash.  If you really want a sash, go with the red to match the flower girl. Maybe everyone can have red flowers?   Then the flower girl is in red to match flowers.  Or she is your "liitle firecracker" so she is in red.

It would probably be possible to change the FG dress to blue color accents, but I think it would be time consuming and require a bit of sewing skill.

Take deep breaths, it will be OK!  In general, any of the dress options will work.  Overall, you seem to have a good idea of the look want.  I think it will look eally good.

  • I think that rather than adding a sash to your dress, a pair of red shoes and red jewelry would tie things in better and would look STUNNING.
  • I agree with the red jewelry and shoes for your dress. It is stunning and I think the sash would take away from that.

For BM dresses, I think either red or white will work. If you do red, I would love to see them in red shoes too!

The GM's attire is a problem. I think the off white linen will take away from your gorgeous dress. I am loving the tan pants look though.

All of this...especially the part about your dress and no sash...the sash would just distract the attention away from the pretty gathering on the side.

  • Yeah I like the BMs' sashes in white and yours in red to match the FG it would be cute.  Love your dress!
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • I vote red shoe and jewelry for you as per PP. That would look awesome! I see the look your guys are going for, and agree the off white might look weird. I like to khakis though.
  • I just wanted to agree with pps to say that your dress would look much better without a sash (it's so flowy!) and just wear some bright red heels and some red jewelry.  And maybe some red lipstick!

(This is a democratic vote, and we can determine what she wears, right??)  :)
