ADVICE - mixing fabric types in Bridemaids dresses (????)

Hey ladies.. I need some advice / pictures (if applicable)

i have 6 bridesmaids and i am letting them pick out their own style of dress as long as it is the correct color (canary yellow) and short from davids bridal. At the beginning I said pick whatever dress you want... so 3 choose a shiny, satin fabric and 3 choose a dull cloth fabric. I didn't think much of this because it is 50/50 on the fabric and they will be alternating... but the more I told people and the more i started picturing it... the more i think that it just isn't going to look right.

What do you think - Ugly or pretty? Noticeable or not noticeable?  Does anyone have any picture of people using multiple fabric b-maid dresses in their wedding?

thanks in advance.  :)

Re: ADVICE - mixing fabric types in Bridemaids dresses (????)

  • If you look at pictures with a mix of fabrics I think it looks fine, this is what I'm planning to do with my attendants' dresses after debating whether they should be the same fabric.  I think it looks better and more elegant to have a mix with each lady wearing what suits her.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • I am also letting my girls choose their dress. I picked the color and length and they pick the style, including whichever fabric. I think in pictures it's less obvious, and that it does not make your WP any less elegant or formal. Here's a pic I found on the DB website; sorry it's small but you should be able to click on it to enlarge. (hopefully)

  • That's something that would probably drive me crazy, but I think it looks fine in the pic Jookie posted.  Also, I think as long as the dresses are at the same level of formality, it is fine.
  • I think it's fine.  I couldn't tell you what fabrics all my girls wore, but I know they weren't all the same.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • From everything I have read and heard, it is perfectly fine. However, I am a freak and wanted all of my BM's in the same fabric. They all really liked it over the other kinds DB had, so everyone was happy.
  • its totally fine!  no one will even notice or care.
  • i think it'll look fine. When i go to weddings i like to see the BMs all in different dresses..the only reason i notice is to get ideas but i don't think anyone else really notices
