Ring Sautering

Ok Ladies I need some advice. I know for sure I want to get my rings sautered together (i've heard how bad it is for your rings and how it can warp the bands.) but I don't know if I want to sauter them before or after the wedding. I'm not sure how long it takes but my mom said hers took 2 weeks. I like the idea of having my DF just putting my wedding band on my finger but I don't want to be married and not be able to wear my rings. I'm so confused and could really use some advice!

Re: Ring Sautering

  • First of all, it's "soldered."

If it were me, I'd wait until after the wedding to have everything done.  Wear them both around for a few weeks and see if you still want them soldered together.  If you do, then send them out.  Two weeks sounds about right, but you will have to ask the jeweler who is going to do the work.

OP, absolutely wait. I know as a newlywed, I wouldn't have wanted to go without my rings, either. It makes no sense to do it beforehand either.

I also wanted the option in years to come to only wear my wedding band.
  • Definitely wait.  I can't even think of an argument to have it done beforehand.
  • definitely wait. my wedding band is actually a cradle (2 bands with a space in between, attached at the bottom), and my E-ring slides in between them. I thought i wanted to fully connect them all until I lived with it for a week or so. my E ring rotates a little, but not badly, and i like having the option to only wear my E -ring (especially if my wedding band had to be repaired or something!)
  • Thank you ladies for your great advice! I'm sorry where i'm from every calls it "sautering" excuse me for not being up on the wedding lingo.

  • Soldering isn't wedding lingo.  It iis a process in which two or more metal items are joined together by melting and flowing a filler metal (solder) into the joint.  It applies to anytime you join two metals by this process, not just rings.

<div>It's pronounced like "sauder" -- it's commonly misspelled around here, no big deal:-)  Didn't want to pick on you, just didn't want you to look silly in front of your jeweler.  </div>
