Nervous about the fitting

I'm going to go to my first dress fitting next week and I am really nervous about it.  When they measured me for the dress they had said that my hips and bust were perfect for one size but  my waist was cutting it close and I should maybe get the next size up.  I really didn't want to take in the whole dress a size for "cutting it close" so I got the smaller size and figured I could lose a pound if need be.  Well, losing that extra pound has proven to be difficult and actually gone in the opposite direction with the help of some stress eating.  When you tried on your dresses for the first time did they tend to run big or small?  The first dressed I tried on was one that was actually "my" size and the attendant was excited that she could put me something that would actually fit me, she pulled the zipper up and I just heard a giant rip, I have a fear that is exactly what will happen again.

You really should have taken their advice and gone the size up. It's much easier to take a dress in than to let it out, but hopefully you won't have any trouble.

  • Not to add to your stress... but, I'd be sort of freaking out too.  You should have taken their advice, but that ship has sailed.  The samples are usually a bit stretched out.  So, if you heard a big "rip" in the sample that was your size, I imagine your dress, which hasn't been worn or tried on by anyone, will be even a bit more snug than the one you tried on at the store.

I would go in and be prepared.  Make sure you wear a pair of high waisted spanx. And try to relax.  Drink lots of water between now and then and try to control your eating.  Most dresses can be let out about one size, but not all of them. But, your alterations are almost always more expensive to let out dresses than to take them in.  Taking them in is much easier and cheaper.

So, just be prepared for a higher alterations cost and hopefully, they will be able to make it work for you.

  • They offered that advice for a reason.

Do what PP said about drinking a lot of water and cut back on your stress eating.  You need to prepare yourself that your dress is not going to fit and your alterations cost may be a lot more because of it.

Hopefully all will go smoothly but you need to be prepared for the worst.
