Price Quote for Alterations

Hey,

I've been a lurker for awhile and now I have a question. How do you go about getting a price quote for alterations? Can I just call them and ask their average price? It seems extremely rude (and time-consuming) to go to several different alteration shops, show them what needs to be done, and then ask for a price before I agree to give them my business. I have a small budget and I need a bit of work done (it's too long and the bust area is too big) so I'd like to do it for as cheap as possible and have it still look great. I was considering just using the store my friend used, but I didn't know what the best way to shop-around for alteration vendors is. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Price Quote for Alterations

  • post on your local board and ask girls who they use.. and prices for what they paid
  • I'm not any help because this is what I wanted to do too, but I ended up just going to the lady my friend used and I am using her. I felt rude having her do all the work to see what needed to be done and then saying, Ok i'm going to talk to someone else now. You can usually get estimates if you know what needs to be done, but most probably will not have an answer without seeing your dress.

  • Unfortunately, Danielle my local board is pretty dead.

And HyperChica, I will probably just end using the one my friend did, too.
  • You can try to call and ask for a range.  That way you have an idea of how each seamstress prices.
