Who to bring to alterations?

My first fitting is next week and I was wondering if I should bring someone with me? I would bring my mom or MOH, but both live over 6 hours away. Is it uncommon for the bride to go alone?

  • I will be going to mine alone... It's in the middle of the day on a Wednesday. Mom and bridesmaid live out of town. Other bridesmaid is a nanny and can't just up and leave, so I will just do it myself. No big deal. :)

  • If you have a friend who wants to go, invite her- otherwise it's totally fine to go on your own!
  • I went alone. Before you go, know or even write down the changes you want, or the changes you are thinking about. I forgot a small detail or 2 when I went so they fixed at the 2nd fitting. And they may say, "no, no, you shouldn't do that," when it really is what you want. I wanted my dress brought in on the bottom, it was too poofy, but they pushed back. I again had to push because it's what I had envisioned. Just don't be afraid to speak up about what you want, but hear them out too, they've been doing this a while.
  • I am not taking anyone to the initial fitting, however one BM is joining me for the second. The store recommends this, as they will show someone how to bustle during this appointment.  If you are having your dress bustled, it may be a good idea to take someone.
