Can I successfully get beading removed from a dress?

As you will all be very surprised, I'm becoming very picky over what I want my wedding gown to look like... and the main problem I'm finding is that the simple styles i want always have gross amounts of beading (not a big beading or crystals fan. even some lace turns me off on wedding dresses :(.. ) And I've found one that looks like the exact shape and size I want, and it's used so It's even cheaper! But it has beading down into the skirt and I was wondering..

Is it realistic to bother removing the beading?

Will it create too much stress on the fabric and leave holes all over? I am currently in school to become a dress maker and feel ashamed that I can't answer my own question.. I know it depends on the fabric, but could it be done with a pleasant end result? Has anyone done this on their own?
