Taking out a corset?

I just got my dress yesterday (yay!) Luckily I still love it after almost 8 months of waiting! The one thing I wasn't completely sold on about the dress is the corset back. It feels too princessy to me and I decided I want to wear a belt which kind of cuts the corset in half. 

I was wondering if it would be difficult to make this a regular zipper back? I keep reading online about people making a zipper or buttoned back into a corset but not the other way around. The top is about 3 sizes too big so there is plently of fabric to squeeze together.

just one thought - i have a corset back and it takes a LOT of stress out of the wedding. i don't have to worry if the zipper makes the dress exactly the right size - because the corset has some flexibility. a lot of people lose weight at the last minte from stress - and the corset allows you to not worry about another fitting!

I am not top heavy and don't plan on losing weight so a corset doesnt seem neccesary...and again I really dislike the look. I was just wondering if anyone has heard of anyone doing this before?

I have never heard of taking a corset out and putting a zipper in it's place, but I have heard a lot of the opposite.  Like MilkDuds said, I would talk to a seamstress.  If you feel a zipper won't support you completely your seamstress can add an inner elastic band with closure hooks to help keep the dress up...I had this on the inside of my dress and it worked really well.

I am getting a corset added. I can't imagine that it would be too hard to remove the corset.

Don't give up! What you are describing is exactly what my seamstress is doing for me.  I also fell in love with my dress despite the corset back, and it also had extra room on top, which is the only reason this works. I bought a size 12 to fit my hips, but being pear-shaped, my bust and waist are closer to a size 8.

I am not a seamstress, but I will try to describe what we're doing to the best of my knowledge. She is leaving in the back panel (that would go behind the corset strings) and sewing in a series of hooks on the inside to physically hold the dress together in back (think like a bra, only many more of them). Then to give the illusion that it is a button down back,  she is sewing ivory buttons down the center of the panel. The corset loops will remain loose on either side, and she'll be doing delicate beading around each one so the blend in with the overall sparkliness of my dress. Finally, since my gown is a mermaid cut, she is taking in the fabric around my bottom so it fits properly.

've heard that corsets releive some stress if you gain or lose weight from stress, but I've also heard that they can loosen throughout the day so you often get pretty squished into them to begin with, and I have to agree that I feel the look is too princess-y for my taste. Good luck!
