Newbie bride needs help!

Re: Newbie bride needs help!

  • I'd be glad to try to help if you'd ask your question.  =)
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • Thank you! Laughing I wrote my question, posted it and then decided to take it off.  I'm new to The Knot boards so I was hesitant in posting my question.  Anyway, am I wondering if is there such a thing as shopping too soon for your dress.  I got engaged in October 2009 and my wedding is set for September 17, 2011.  There is a trunk show for the designer that I love next weekend and I'm just wondering if its too soon to shop?  I guess I'm afraid that if I find something now that I will also find something else that I like in the future....any thoughts?

  • It is risky, but you can find some really good deals if you have time to bargain shop.  Be careful of purchasing your dress on a whim, because you might change your mind once your wedding day gets closer; styles are always changing.  I purchased my dress from a bride who bought my dress, but then decided to go with another.  It was a steal for me, but cost her a pretty penny.  However, it never hurts to look :)

    Welcome to the knot!

  • I think one of the first things every new bride wants to do is try on dresses! I went to Davids Bridal to try dresses on and get an idea of what looked good on my body and then after I began to narrow it down, and after I figured out venue and feel of the wedding, I got really serious about picking a dress and checking out designers I liked. For example how much I was willing to spend and what sort of quality I wanted.

  • Great advice, nosaj---nubmer one thing I recommend to newbies.  Go to a place like DB to get a sense of what you like/don't like.  I did the same.  Of course, I ended up purchasing a gown from DB to my dismay and had to cancel my appts at designer trunk shows, but now I am getting a videographer I LOVE. ...which brings me to my next tip...be sure to figure out your dress budget before you start looking.  :)
  • I got engaged May 2nd 2009, and my wedding isn't until Oct 2, 2010 (250 days!) and I went the weekend after.  I tried on 8 different dresses and ended up picking the 2nd on I tried on.  I went to DB, and only went there.. I was on a very tight budget.  The only problem I'm having is that I want to put it on all the time and I know I can't at least until I start alterations soon.  I'm storing it at my Grandma's house too for that reason, if it were at my our house, first of all my FI would snoop, and I don't want him seeing it, and I'd put it on everyday haha...
  • Thanks for all of the help ladies!  I think I'm offically addicted to the boards now! Smile
